GdS: Milan turn to new-look ‘9-10-11’ attacking trident vs. Juventus

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli will field potentially the strongest line-up he realistically can for the game against Juventus in Los Angeles, including the attacking trident.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pioli will send out an attacking trio of Christian Pulisic, Oliver Giroud and Rafael Leao while waiting to meet Samuel Chukwueze for the first time back in Italy.

Pulisic has the number 11 shirt, with Giroud occupying the 9 and Leao the 10. It is like Arrigo Sacchi’s Milan in the 5-0 defeat of Real in the 1989 semi-finals with Van Basten (9), Gullit (10) and Ancelotti (11), all scoring in a legendary game.

Pioli gave a pretty clear hint as to the team he will field during yesterday’s training session at the BMO Stadium in LA. The starters had black bibs on and the reserves were in red, and Luka Romero scoring another screamer in the intra-squad game.

Pioli hopes that Pulisic will be able to put the difficulties from his time at Chelsea behind him and combine well with Giroud and Leao, who scored 34 goals combined last season, including 28 in the league alone.
