GdS: Milan to sign ‘Leao’s twin’ for the opposite wing – how they landed Chukwueze

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan never gave up on signing Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal and now they look destined to get their man, according to a report.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Villarreal demanded €30m to let Chukwueze leave but because he has less than a year left on his deal, Milan saw a bid of €20m plus €8m in bonuses expected, after an initial €20-25m bid (total) was rejected.

The operation will be definitively closed in the next few hours and a five-year deal worth close to €4m net per season is ready, meaning the Nigeria international will immediately become one of the highest paid members of the team.

He will head out for the American tour and meet his new team-mates soon, and he will also take part in the friendly matches that will be played out there against Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona.

Now Milan have balance to their attack because they have signed a player who could be ‘Leao’s twin’ by virtue of his dribbling skill, his acceleration, his pace and his eye for goal.

Chukwueze guarantees sprints, one-on-one ability and danger in the last 20 metres. Last season he netted 6 goals in LaLiga, 4 in the Copa del Rey, 3 in the Conference League and had 11 total assists.

For the past three seasons Milan have leant heavily on the left side with Theo Hernandez and Leao. However, Christian Pulisic has signed and he can play on the right, Noah Okafor will alternate with Olivier Giroud and Chukwueze will be the starter.

At 24 and after an entire career wearing Villarreal yellow (207 total games, 37 goals, 31 assists), Chukwueze is ready to change  and try a new adventure, which is what allowed Milan to eventually break down the resistance of the Spaniards.

  1. For next season, I’d love to see Theo-Leao on the left flank and Singoh-Chuky on the left flank. that would be great!

  2. For next season, I’d love to see Theo-Leao on the left flank and Singoh-Chuky on the right*… that would be great!

      1. I think we are more in for a LB and midfielder right now. Calafiori and Musah are the last two names I think.

Now if we sign a striker, as I think there are some that view Okafor more as a rotational winger… but that’s just my own feeling and not all that likely.

        1. I think you are right, the main department’s that need additions are midfield and a left back.
Okafor will probably be used as substitute for all forward roles, as in this time Leao & Chuk look like the starters however exciting question marks remain regarding the formation, Pulisic(who seems to have already impressed Pioli) and of course De ketelaere.
All in all it’s such a nice feeling seeing transfer after transfer completed and done!

          1. If we manage to sell some players, like Rebic, Ballo Toure, Origi and maybe Messias, then there is a chance we will still go for a further striker I think. I wanted Lacazette, but know he’s more likely to go to Saudi Arabia.

And there is plenty of time left to lighten the squad and do it. Seems to me this management doesn’t wait till last minute.

  3. Walaupun saya kecewa dgn kepergian maldini.. tp dgn transfer ini saya senang sekali.. semoga transfer ini ga jadi malapetaka sperti era Cina… FORZA MILAN❤️❤️❤️

  4. This really is a huge transfer. Not just for Chukwueze himself, but also for Leao. We have two unpredictable players in attack and this will open up space Leao, and Leao will do that for Chukwueze. It will give opposing defenders a major headache.

      1. I think he will. The other article said he had 11 assists and 13 goals last season. This is a wildly unpredictable player. Defenders won’t know who to mark.

    1. Let’s see if Chuk is close to Leao quality in actuality. I hope this works out well for us, because he is certainly an upgrade to Junior/Alexis. He is definitely fast, hopefully clinical too.

  5. This is what I initially thought about him when I first saw his clips. If one thing, how he plays really reminds me of Leao; just with different strong foot on a different side. Don’t know it’ll be a good thing or not to have extremely similar players down both flanks. As I said plenty of times, it’ll all go down to Pioli with his 5th consecutive years in Milan. And this guy is clearly a request by Pioli. Will be interesting season ahead.

  6. Chukwueze is has potential with both leao I think this season we be interesting and our derby will be interesting to wash

  7. The DERBY is early in the season. With so many players coming in, it will take time to get them to function together and get comfortable with each other. I hope Pioli has enough time before the season starts.

Also, Inter lost a lot of their back bone in Brozo, Skriniar, Onana, Dzeko – all vocal leaders in their locker room. They too will have so geling to do.

    The DERBY will be interesting.

    FORZA MILAN ⚫️🔴
