GdS: Milan’s midfield wish list is long with Frattesi as protagonist – the names

The midfield is one of the priorities for AC Milan this summer and while Davide Frattesi remains the No.1 target, at least one more will be needed. The Rossoneri’s wish list for the department is long, a report claims.

Sandro Tonaloi has said goodbye, joining Newcastle in a deal worth €70m, while Ismael Bennacer will be sidelined with an injury until the end of the year. In short, Milan need to bring in at least two midfielders this summer.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (see photo below), Frattesi could arrive in addition to one more midfielder. Alternatively, should the Italian join Inter or Juventus, then Milan could focus on their other targets which are not Italian.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was on the verge of joining the club earlier this month and his arrival would be sanctioned by everyone. He has a price tag of €15-20m. The other name that appears to be most concrete is Tijjani Reijnders, who plays for AZ Alkmaar and would cost €18m.

As said, it’s possible that one of these could arrive in addition to Frattesi, or both if the latter doesn’t join. Additional targets include Carney Chukwuemeka (Chelsea), Morten Hjulmand (Lecce) and Joey Veerman (PSV).

Milan must also be wary of the Non-EU spots, as they can register two of those players and Loftus-Cheek would be one. That would mean they would also have to decide between Samuel Chukwueze and Arda Guler.

  1. I expect a long and tedious summer of transfer rumors. The insidious firing of Maldini and the imminent sale of Tonali are signs for me that I should not expect anything more than a disappointment. We may in fact be entering into a Phase 2 of the ‘Banter Era’. I would be extremely happy if I am proven wrong, but, at any rate, at present time my resignment and the lack of optimist are reminiscent of those dark years not so long ago.

  2. Additionally to completely new midfield, we also need:

    – a star striker
    – RW or two
    – LW if Rebic and Origi leave
    – LB substitute for Theo

Tonali’s money won’t be enough to cover all this so we might just see another prized player leave.

    1. Lets just move Saelemaekers to backup LW, put Messias as backup RW, and keep Colombo as 3rd ST. That will simpifly the transfer campaign, no need to by LW, only need to buy an RW and an ST in addition to Kamada and midfielders. LB can wait.

        1. With this method, we still get a new RW, a new AM, and a new ST (3 departments we were struggling last season) in addition to 2 new DM. Besides, our budget is only 35m + 56m from Tonali sales (14m goes to Brescia).

    2. Don’t forget that we have a very talented LW in the Primavera. Character traore… He is at the moment in his career now where he needs first team experience or he wil most likely leave. Giving him the back up spot behind leao would solve more than one problem

  3. In Zio Gerry we don’t trust
    So far, an utter disappointment
Long time still to go until mercato is done, yet all signs are more than being simply ‘worrying’

  4. It’s very difficult to bring in a better quality player if you don’t want to spend money. Today, English league clubs pay 50 million for players who are more lumberjacks than footballers and everyone else on the continent buys only their leftovers! No one here thinks that we need to spend some huge sum and re-enter the control of UEFA, but if after the semi-finals of the C.L. and this lucrative deal with Tonali we cannot allocate funds for at least two positions that we extremely need, then I am really afraid for the future of the club under this administration .

    1. Exactly, I bet their strategy looks all fancy in the excel, but once they confront it with reality, they’ll find themselves knee deep in shit by late August and signing more Adlis and Vranckxes in hurry hoping they won’t flop.

  5. Guys we’re starting the season with same exact team as we have now..maybe a mid or two but don’t hold out hope for any LW or RW
