AC Milan may have ended their winless run in Serie A last night but they will have to improve on that performance when they face Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport writes, too many individuals performed at lower standards last night for it to be regarded as a game to try and repeat in midweek, with the forwards in particular struggling.
One of the keys to the last summer transfer market was at least decreasing or ideally filling the gap between starters and reserve options. At the moment, it seems like that hasn’t happened.
The team will be reassured by the return to winning ways after four games in a row without one in the league. After the last two outings at San Siro were defeats, there was a need to bounce back by any means.
Milan are ‘strictly tied to psychology, rather than tactics’ at the moment as per the paper. It was clear from the way the second half began: instead of taking courage from Theo Hernandez’s goal at the end of a horrible first half the intensity vanished and the Rossoneri looked like they were playing in energy saving mode.

Second half Milan had 2 goal chances vs Fiorentina’s 17. Improve is far from what they need to win against Dortmund.
Give Dortmund similar changes and they’ll score 4 or 5 goals. Hard to win when you concede that many.
In match vs Fiorentina (Giournata 13), i think we were pretty good at 1st half. Made many big chances, but lack of Finishing maybe because lack of confident playing without Olivier Giroud (Best Finisher) & Pietro Terraciano had a good games with many good saves.
But i saw some promising tactical variation : Changed to 4-3-1-2 at about last 20 mins of the game. We were use RLC as AMC, Chukwueze as STCR, Jovic / Camarda as STCL.
The weak point only at AMC, which are RLC go too defensive (Because we want to protect our lead). So we can’t play vertically. I think we should use Pulisic as AMC, Leao as STCL, and for STCR can be Giroud of Chukwueze depend on we play fast or fluid. Play fast, use Chukwueze, play fluid use Giroud.
We can do so much better with 4-3-1-2. Stronger in build-up play because focus on mid, just like we want ” play vertical so don’t go too wide. And if opponents do mid block, we have solution in very strong Wing-Back in Theo Hernandez who can exploit the exposes wide from back to final third, and Leao & Chukwueze at final third.
