Hakan Calhanoglu was unsurprisingly highlighted as Milan’s Man of the Match against Shamrock Rovers by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Ultimately it would be Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Calhanoglu who were decisive, with both scoring either side of the break in a 2-0 win. The former netted first thanks to an assist from the latter, while the Turkey international essentially killed the game just over 20 minutes from time.
According to the player ratings from the paper (via MilanNews), Calhanoglu was worthy of a score of 7.5 out of 10, and they remarked that his relationship with Ibrahimovic lit up the game.
The Swede and Donnarumma both scored 7s, while Calabria and Theo Hernandez each got a 6.5. Kjaer, Kessié, Castillejo and Krunic got 6 out of 10.
The only real disappointments were Bennacer – whose ‘form is not yet optimal’ – Saelemaekers and Gabbia, who all received a 5.5 from the game in Dublin which sees Milan reach the third round.
