GdS: Milan player ratings for Lazio draw – mixed night for summer signings

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan failed to pick up their first win of the season on Saturday night at the Stadio Olimpico as they drew 2-2 with Lazio in a rollercoaster game, and the player ratings are understandably mixed.

The team’s overall performance was given a 6 out of 10, with head coach Paulo Fonseca receiving the same score for his management of the match and his in-game choices.

The man of the match for the Rossoneri was Rafael Leao who came on after being left out of the starting XI and made a big difference, scoring the goal to make it 2-2 after some good work down the left side.

The player who struggled most was right-back Emerson Royal, who started his first game for Milan since joining from Spurs but struggled on both of Lazio’s goals during what was a five-minute turnaround in the second half.

Among the other players to get below a 6 were Filippo Terracciano, Tijjani Reijnders and Samuel Chukwueze. There was praise for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Noah Okafor and Tammy Abraham.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s ratings

7: Rafael Leao, Tammy Abraham.

6.5: Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Noah Okafor.

6: Mike Maignan, Fikayo Tomori, Strahinja Pavlovic, Youssouf Fofana, Theo Hernandez.

5.5: Filippo Terracciano, Tijjani Reijnders, Samuel Chukwueze.

5: Emerson Royal.

    1. LOLOLOLO.

You do realize a goal is kinda all that matters in that situation right??? One goal after one minute of play – any coach would take that

Stop w the Leao hate bro – not for this game. Pick on someone else – you have plenty of options lol

      1. Pulisic was just behind him. If leao wasn’t there puli would’ve gotten the pass and scored.
I actually watch football not whatever you people think you watch

        1. Well you obviously didn’t watch the build up which was started by Leao and finished by Leao LOLOLO

          Go back to bed bro.

          Hate on Leao next game

  1. Loftus-Cheek a 6.5?!?! What the hell did this guy do? I’m sick of watching him stroll around the pitch, doing absolutely nothing. He doesn’t make runs, he doesn’t make passes, he doesn’t score, he doesn’t do anything.

    1. He drives the ball forward well, but just loses the plot once he gets to the opposition box. I think he single-handedly caused two Roma yellows for bringing him down.

  2. On what basis did RLC score 6.5? That Ruben and Emerson were the worst players on the field for both team. The guy can’t play that number 10 role. He can’t pick a pass, he can’t dribble, to hold on player for other to take possession he still can’t do that. I wonder why he keeps playing 90min contributing nothing. Pulisic and Tijani would do a better job in that role. Even Musa would at least do better than Ruben in that role with his running and dribble though with poor passes. This AC Milan midfield isn’t in top five of best midfield in serieA, the defence is not in top 5 in serieA while the attack isn’t in top 3 in serieA. The only department that AC Milan is in top 3 is the goal keeping.

  3. Yes 6.5.

It’s amazing what people who know what they’re talking about can see.

And you saying he doesn’t score when he IN FACT scored 10 goals last season sort of shows that FACTS are not really your thing.

But, yes, let’s line up against all of the players at the club who have actually won stuff.

Of all our signings from mid table clubs from foreign leagues Loftus-Cheek and Pulisic have actually won stuff.

    And it shows.

You can see these players actually bring something to the team.

Unlike the great mystery that is Reijnders.

    1. GdS in fact has shown again and again that they do not know what they’re talking about.

You can suck Rubens PiPi as hard as you like. That wont make him anything other than an average player.
Last night he didnt take a single shot nor did he create anything. so much for the grea AM ruben.

Who gives a F if he won someting 5 years ago as a sub

      1. But average players don’t win the Premier League or the Europa League. They don’t score 10 goals from midfield in their first season in Serie A. They don’t have an impact nearly every time they get the ball.

RLC consistently turns and moves the ball forward, or wins a free kick nearly every time he gets the ball. He does things decisively and quickly.

I really don’t know what people are expecting.

        1. Yes they do. Origi won the CL, epl and some others.

And ruben doesn’t do any of what you’re saying he does. He literally has 0 effect when he plays. Somehow he is worse than cdk was yet people like you drop your pants because he scored a handful of lucky goals… he’s as slow as an 80yo and doesn’t use his huge stature for duels. He is useless.
Just pls stop writing how good he is and a winner and whatever else you think. It’s bothering the living shît out of me, that such stupidity is being thought by a human being. And then written..and then poor people on here read it. Like they aren’t depressed enough already by the negative atmosphere around the club.

          1. Not sure why you’re so worked up. RLC’s value is driving the ball forward and winning fouls, which he did last game. Unfortunately he doesn’t have a killer pass or a defense splitting pass to him. So he just makes a side pass and it kind of just stops with that.

He’s not an AM. You’ll never see Kaka-level contributions out of him. But this isn’t a Kaka-level club anymore and hasn’t been for some time.

RLC is box-to-box and should never play the 10 role. That’s on Fonseca – not sure why he fails to see that.

    2. You must have a RLC poster in your bedroom. This glazing is unreal. How many goals has he scored so far THIS season? How many assists? How many useful things has he done apart from your beloved ”ball carries” that are borderline useless?

”Won stuff”. Yeah, Ryan Bertrand has also won stuff for Chelsea, we should’ve signed him, too. And Jorginho.

      1. His sample size is last season, not the first three games in which, frankly, everyone has been sub par.

Last season he didn’t create much himself, per se, but he found himself at the right place at the right time in the box with 10 goals. That’s nothing to sniff at.

        1. Sure it is. You could play thiaw as am like pioli played ruben last season and he would come into positions to score goals. Doesn’t make thiaw a good am

    3. Reijnders is easily the best midfielder we have. But I don’t expect you to understand that since according to you the best performer on this team is Calabria…

  4. Not sure this rating is for last night’s game. Terraciano, Reuben, Chukwueze, Emerson, Reijnders, performed below par. Milan needs a good right back. Emerson is not the solution to Calabria’s shortcomings. Pulisic should be used as a 10, or from the right wing, while Chukwueze comes from the bench. It’s up to the coach to make his midfield selections. It would take time to get the right balance, but, I still give the coach credit for trying something different. Forza Milan!

  5. It’s, so fuc…. simple!
In the current formation we have 4 offensive players that are not coming back to help with defending and they are under performing as the aren’t yet in shape, si change the formation to: 352 or 532.
You need to stop getting goals and start building confidence on the back, you only win games if you don’t take goals. This is a statistical fact, the one who win cups are the teams who have aloud Les goals.
Wake the f… up and where the f… Is Zlatan? Holiday now? Very disrespectful towards the fans, and disappointed on his decision.
    Bring Maldini back 🔙

    1. The reality is that Fonseca is a good coach, our problem has always been the same. Our defence is shi, every time the opposition makes a counterattack I’m sweating like crazy cuz they ALWAYS open our defense up

      1. A good coach spots problems and immediately makes adjustments to fix them.

Third game in a row we concede the same goals from the same build up from the same side and so far zero adjustments have been made.

Quite literally the opposite of good coaching.

  6. This is not about the ratings but…. What we should do in the midfield is put Bennacer and Fofana as DMs (given fonseca has lined up with a 4-2-3-1) and then put Reijnders as a CAM, Tiji is a better playmaker/box-to-box midfielder than RLC. Tiji has been mid so far under Fonseca’s system because fonseca has put him a DM. Something he isn’t.

  7. I’ve decided that all these ratings are bs. They don’t watch a game with an eye on the whole field. I’ve been a Chuck critic because he is so loose with the ball. Tell me one time he got the ball when he wasn’t boxed in. There was a player blocking the line and one blocking him from going cross the field. The issue with Milan yesterday was the backline’s inability to get the ball to the midfielders. No passes splitting defenders and the two midfielders were so static or would just pass the ball back. Hence everything was forced wide and there was nothing there for the wide players.
