GdS: Milan ‘probable’ XI vs Manchester City – late changes expected

By Ben Dixon -

Although AC Milan’s fixture against Manchester City is not until later tonight, we can begin to see how Paulo Fonseca will line up his squad and a report has claimed that some changes have been made from earlier predictions.

With the squad being boosted by some returns, we can expect to see some changes from Milan’s previous friendly against Rapid Wien, and an earlier report showed that there were some decisions still to be made by the Portuguese head coach.

Three positions were seemingly undecided, but in the hours that have passed since, there have also been some other changes to the predicted lineup.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, the defence could see two changes from the draw in Austria. Marco Sportiello will be given the nod, Davide Calabria will keep his place at right-back, and Matteo Gabbia will retain his position in central defence.

However, Fikayo Tomori will be welcomed into the defensive line, as will Alex Jimenez – who joined the club permanently at the start of the mercato.

Yacine Adli will hold his place in defensive midfield, but he may be partnered with Ismael Bennacer, rather than Tommaso Pobega, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will take his place in front of the duo.

On the wings, 17-year-old Mattia Liberali is expected to start on the left – originally, Daniel Maldini was expected to start, but following news of his potential departure this may have changed the manager’s plans – and Samuel Chukwueze will start on the right.

Lorenzo Colombo was expected to lead the line, but with his situation similar to Maldini’s, Luka Jovic is expected to return to the starting lineup.

  1. We are gonna get absolutely slaughtered. I know it’s “just” a friendly but it’s still embarrassing that Milan just get their asses handed to them on every one of these USA tours. Bad for the club’s image.

At the very least, management should make sure we are gonna have a somewhat competitive squad available in time for these games…

    1. Haha who cares about a lousy tournament in USA, last time I checked Milan was still a football team playing in Milan, Italy in Serie A. What is embarrassing is getting destroyed 1-5 by Inter in Serie A, losing at home the derby so Inter is champion with two stars on the jersey or being eliminated of any European competition. What is embarrassing is lying all day long, saying “we’re ambitious” then hire Fonseca and recruit Morata.

    2. Didn’t city literally get beaten by Celtic? It’s preseason buddy. Nobody cares in the slightest, it’s glorified fitness training

  2. first half was surprisingly good, lots of combination play, almost weird seeing it. Gonna be interesting to see what happen when city start putting on first team players
