GdS: Milan raise offers for Monaco star and Spurs defender – response awaited

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan are pursuing their next two targets after the recent capture of Strahinja Pavlovic, and a report has claimed that the Rossoneri have raised their offers for the wanted duo.

The mercato has been open for a month, but Milan are yet to really dig into their budget. So far, only two of the four ‘targeted’ positions have been added, but things could change quickly in the next few weeks with the Serie A season approaching.

For the Diavolo, it is not a case of not knowing the targets – we know that the two ideals are Emerson Royal and Youssouf Fofana – but Milan are biding their time to meet the transfer value of both signings.

However, a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has claimed that progress is being made on both fronts.

Milan’s million gap

As the report states, in recent days, the Rossoneri have increased their offers for both players and are awaiting responses from Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco, respectively. Both players have already given themselves to the club, so only an agreement between the two clubs is needed.

In the case of Emerson, since talks seemingly died last month, they have been relit, and Milan are gradually getting closer to meeting Spurs’ valuation of the right-back, with Gazzetta suggesting that there is a €1 million gap between them.

London Calling…

The negotiations for Fofana are slightly more difficult. Whilst the Diavolo have had the Frenchman in their sights for a significant period, and he is the dream player for Paulo Fonseca, but there is a distance to go still.

It seemed like the Rossoneri were successful with their most recent bid of €14m and bonuses. However, West Ham have approached the table and left a bid of €35m, forcing the French club to raise their demands.

As Gazzetta puts it, the ball is firmly in the French outfit’s court, and even though the player dreams of Milan, there are no intentions to pay €35m for a player whose contract expires in less than 12 months.

  1. Why don’t teams like West Ham agree terms with the player first and find out if the player wants to join them.

Instead they throw their cash at it and become oblivious to the fact that they artificially inflate the market, so typical of Premier league teams and the reason the rest of Europe enjoy beating their teams and putting them in their place.

Shame on West Ham for employing such tactics

    1. Actually many teams are displeased that teams seek agreement from the players and their agent first before negotiating price for the transfer.

Because that way, the player become enamored to transfer and then the player will force the club to accept the lower price from the team… such as Enzo Fernandez case from Benfica to Chelsea.

The traditional way that happen years ago before prem price inflation was, actually, clubs negotiate with the club first before they start to negotiate the terms with the player..

    2. That’s a bit hypocrite my friend. Were you complaining last summer when Newcastle splashed 70M€ for Tonali? Were you rooting for the management to sell him for his estimated value of 40-45M€ instead?

As AR says, it’s also a shame to speak to a player that is under contract, that is disrespectful, even if it’s the norm now. Truth is football is one of the most ruthless businesses as there are very little regulations. It’s very competitive by nature, so is the transfer market. Our ownership makes the choice to have a ridiculous salary cap and to spend little but other clubs can do whatever they want, especially when they have so much revenues from TV rights like English clubs.

      1. In all honesty I see that €70m is well worth it for Tonali, especially if Enzo Fernandez is £100m plus, the point which may have escaped you is that, the days of speaking to a club are long gone, the power now clearly lies with agents thus you speak to the client’s first.

And before everyone tells me that agents are the root of all evil, it is the clubs who have initially manipulated agents to do their bidding and now the servants have turned on their masters…..same old story, just a different time.

West Ham are fully aware that Fofana would not choose them, they are simply appealing to his greed and the greed of the club, fully knowing the impact of their overvalue bid will have on the market, but they simply don’t care and this is indicative of all premier league clubs they have turned players into mercenaries,

As JayZ say “Fu$k all your accolades, just the dough”,

This is all thanks to the Premier League clubs, no one really wants to play in the Premier League (unless they are British), they play there for financial security and that is the chief reason no matter what the Premier League PR machine may say!

        1. Yeah man I understand your point and I myself am very critical of modern football but West Ham is not doing anything against the rules. Football should be enforced in a perfect world but like any other aspect of capitalism and competitive markets, it’s the rich that commands. Agents, multi ownership, transfers, etc. it’s the far west. But we can’t complain much as Milan benefitted a lot from the Bosman rule with Berlusconi splashing money for top players at the time, when PL was not so rich.

I also consider Tonali as more valuable than Fofana but if Tonali is worth 70M€, 14M€ for Fofana is a tremendous joke, even in the last year of his contract.

Bonus point for quoting Jay Z 🙂

          1. The difference is, Tonali wasn’t in his last year of contract. Fofana is. Nobody pays the player’s full value in this instance because next year they leave for free.

    3. First you contact the club and get an agreement then you deal with the player. That’s transfer 101.

We’re the ones doing it “wrong”

      1. If Milan wants teams to buy there own players at there own amount I mean clues, so why can’t we buy from them at there own price…..

We caused these Fofana matter this long, if you want him badly, why delay in getting him all these while…. Pricing like women

    4. EPL teams have the money. Loads of it. Imagine the last team (Relegated, at that) at the end of EPL season pockets more money from TV rights than the Serie A champion! They don’t have much to spend it on. They don’t develop their club facilities, training grounds commercial sectors that much. The media does the hype and the clubs reap big. So they end up spending most of it (and inflating the market) on the player market.

  2. I think we should offer a swap to get him. Kalulu and Okafor go to Monaco, we get Fofana and Singo. We can throw a little bit of cash. This way we get Fofana, and Singo will be ideal right back and also counts as local trained player.

  3. with Adli not in Fonsecas plans, we have one spot left for over 22y non-italian player. and we have 3 positions for potential buys (RB/LB, DM, ST). fans strongly demand a DM, but since it looks like RLC will finally be used further down the pitch, i actually dont see a Fofana deal needed or possible only if Bennacer (who is not bad currently) is sold. and i start to believe the management has abandoned that idea of Fofana and now playing for time. one good defensive display of RLC+Bennacer against Barca and the public demand for a DM could be gone, so management can prepare a free move next season and use the open spot for another striker who we really need. (btw i’m also not convienced of an offensive RB addition, since Jimenez or Salad can give us this)

    1. We don’t need a striker right now. We have Morata, Jovic, and Okafor. We also still have Origi ini our ranks, which is obviously wont even play. 2 of them need to leave first before We buy another striker, else We will have too many baggage at front that need to be sold/released.

They might not be ideal for some, but the fact is there.

      1. Origi dont count (even if we would want to use him which we dont, he would take a spot). one of the big issues last season was that Giroud had to play too many games (Morata is a bit younger, but still he needs his minutes managed properly to perform well). With Pulisic AM, Okafor will be needed more as a winger than striker. i agree, if you can guarantee that none of the 3 will be injured, it’ll work. but even then it could be close if one of the other attackers is injured and one out of form (then you lose Okafor completely to the wing). As i said earlier, it looks like a creative type (mainly Pulisic) will be AM instead of RLC, that makes 4 attacking spots, for 7 player (+ a handfull of minutes for the youngstars) – i dont think anyone wont get enough minutes. (even without any injuries), btw we shouldnt forget most of our attackers are playing lots of national team football as well.

  4. I think, use Morata or Jovic Knowledge for Camarda use morata n jovic play patner fo camarda. N we hope Camarda can excellent striker for Milan, n use some fund for other transfer target

    1. forget Camarda for this season. we can use him only when everything is easy and we are 2 goals up, to make him develop. we cannot gamble with the result + with his health (defenders dont care about knocking him out when they have to fight for something) when we desperately need a goal and therefore a 2nd striker on the pitch
