GdS: Milan player ratings for Fiorentina win – Leao MOTM; Thiaw struggles

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan secured three very important points at Fiorentina last night and Rafael Leao was the big hero, bagging a goal and an assist. Gazzetta dello Sport published their player ratings this morning and gave him the MOTM award.

Thanks to the win, and Juve’s defeat to Lazio, Milan are now six points to the good in second place and Inter are currently eleven points ahead. In our player ratings, Mike Maignan was named the MOTM at 8/10, but one can understand Gazzetta dello Sport too.

Leao, with a goal and an assist, was named the MOTM by the pink newspaper at 8/10. Maignan was the second-best player at 7.5, making an extraordinary save on Andrea Belotti in the second half. Indeed, both of them led Milan to victory.

The likes of Tijjani Reijnders, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Samuel Chukwueze also did very well at 7. The latter has seemingly found his stride, showing great confidence, while the Dutchman bagged an assist and the Englishman scored the opener.

Davide Calabria, Fikayo Tomori, Alessandro Florenzi, Ismael Bennacer and Matteo Gabbia did more than average a 6.5, while the Americans Yunus Musah and Christian Pulisic passed the test at 6. The forwards Olivier Giroud and Noah Okafor struggled at 5.5.

The worst, however, was Malick Thiaw at 5.5 as he was carded after a very clumsy challenge. He still seems to be lacking that crucial match fitness and his size is almost a problem for him now.

  1. If only we had DeZerbi… we’d have won 5-1…. But seriously it is amusing to see Jube collapse and Inter (maybe) having to resort to winning the title through “bad decisions” from the refs.

    1. How would we have one 5-1 if we had de Zerbi? It doesnt make sense. We scored fewer goals than we could have because our finishing was poor, not because of tactics

  2. Among other things, last night we also saw Mike in all his glory ! He is not only a goalkeeper, but literally the 11th active player on the field! I’m sorry if we have to lose such a goalkeeper. And Chuck got a chance and the old fact that everyone needs time to adjust is proven again. Thiaw again the weak link. Gabbia simply has to have a place in the top 11! Calabria is also not impressing me lately. The media is full of stories about the new striker, and I’m more interested in how they will organize the defense next season.

    1. I think both Mike and chuk need to have a good run of form begore the criticism will stop. One good game isn’t nearly enough for chuk.
Agree about Gabbia. He has almost not made a misstep since returning in january.

    2. Agree. it still bothers me how a lot of our players need “time to adjust”. No player at liverpool spent a year adapting, or at City or Madrid. Heck even at inter, from the outside it looks as if they lost big players, new ones come in and perform. It is what it is, Chuck will be better next year as it will be the case for Okafor and Jovic.

      1. Vinicius Junior spent 2 seasons at Real Madrid being trash before becoming one of the best wingers in the world. Adjustement is just different from player to player.
And it’s not like everyone of our players took time to adjust, Pulisic is having one of his best seasons ever from pretty much the get-go, Reijnders as well. Giroud, Messias,… didn’t also take time to adjust.

  3. When he doesn’t perform well he gets enough criticism, when he performs at his best he isn’t well appreciated.

Milan fans are the worst, full of hate and criticism.
