GdS: Why Milan could end up signing two strikers instead of one this summer

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan could end up signing two strikers this summer as they seek fresh quality and depth in attack for the new season under a different coach.

As reported by Luca Bianchin of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera), there is a chance that Milan enter the market for two different strikers this summer as they seek to replace Olivier Giroud and add more quality depth than just Luka Jovic.

The striker that Milan are closest to signing right now is Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, who has a release clause of €17m. The Guinean has always been viewed as a cheaper option compared to the likes of Joshua Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko.

The report explains that if Milan manages to sign a striker for a good price, such as Guirassy, it can’t be ruled out that they will continue the pursuit of someone like Zirkzee or Sesko who have higher ceilings than the 28-year-old Stuttgart man.

Signing two strikers would be very bad news for Jovic who is expected to stay at the club for another season. He would have very limited time on the pitch if Zirkzee and Guirassy were both at the club and fit enough to play.

  1. Like I said a few days. Don’t pick one but two. Less risky and adds more options to playing formations. And I’ve always loved 2-striker formations anyway.

    1. The right thing to do. We need a top 9, and someone else to take their place every now and then. Jovic is not that man. We can’t keep blaming the coach for poor results when we don’t have the products. We also need quality in the defensive midfield, and in the defense. We had a good squad last season, but, we need something better if we want to aim higher.

      1. Yeah. Was it a coincidence we won the scudetto when we had Zlatan AND Giroud? Nope. You cannot rely on just one good striker. Next year Zlatan was out half the season and that showed in the results.

  2. Makes sense to get 2 if Serhou is in the mix. We will be competing on multiple fronts and this will give us sufficient cover in case of injuries.

  3. We needed a reliable striker when Giroud WAS here. Now with him leaving, one would think (simple math here) that we still need that one striker + Giroud replacement…

Guirassy’s price tag hopefully leaves room to add another striker to the roster… Ohterwise, we’re back to the original problem of lacking a threat up front.

    1. We can keep both Okafor and Jovic and go for that one striker.
Or go for Pinamonti instead of Jovic for that replacement who shouldn’t be too expensive.
But 2 strikers+Jovic+Okafor would be too much.

  4. Depressing reading all these B squad names being bandied around. Milan need world class players. They’re never going to return to dominate world football without someone willing to spend money to grow the club.
