GdS: Milan’s squad value has decreased by €137m – the biggest player drop

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan’s season has been far from perfect and their struggles in 2023 have put a top-four finish and thus Champions League qualification at risk. As a result, the overall squad value has decreased by €137m.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it), the failure to perform consistently in the league this year has really hurt the squad value. In total, the team is now worth €137m less compared to in the summer.

The biggest ‘villain’, as you would expect, is Rafael Leao seeing as he had a very had value after the Scudetto season. He has gone from €150m to €70m. The centre-back duo of Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu have gone from €50m to €30m and €30m to €20m respectively.

Charles De Ketelaere was signed for around €35m in the summer but his value is now €20m, while Divock Origi has gone from €12m to €5m. Finally, Yacine Adli who barely has got any paying time stands at €5m rather than €10m.

    1. No thank you. Retire or sell please.

We need better players than Kjaer. He’s super slow, isn’t good with the ball at his feet (ie. he’s not a ball playing defender, he’s a pure stopper) and isn’t strong enough anymore in a 2 man backline. 3 man backline may cover his deficiencies but Milan will likely revert back to 2 man.

Look, I can run faster than Kjaer (no joke) and I’m older than him. That’s not a good sign for a pro player in this day and age.

  1. Great source. Some dude pulling out numbers out of his ****

In one place he compares current value of CDK to how much we paid for him. In another he compares current value of Leao to his “150M value” last summer. So which is it? Are we comparing current value to last summer value or to how much we paid for a player? Or are we just picking whichever number fits the narrative.

And all of those numbers are a ridiculous guesswork (and that’s a generous phrasing). For example, 150M mention for Leao is based on his release clause!!! How? If he was worth so much than why no club acivated it? And why the same clause is not used now? There isnt even any mentioned here. Just making up numbers as they go to fit the premiss.

Maybe we should see how the compentence of journalists is falling to all time low, instead of making up transfer valuations.

  2. Seeing this crap makes me so depressing thinking that we had a chance to signed both Enzo Fernandez and Kvaratskhelia for a total of 20M was less than one CDK.

  3. Also Leao doesnt worth 150M that was just his releases clause not his net worth, Farcelona put a ridiculous release clause for players like Ansu Fati and it doesnt mean that they worth that much.

  4. “IF” Leao value is 70 mil today, then his value hasn’t dropped a cent , since his value was 70 in the summer after the scudetto season.
Do people not remember the 70 mil offer Milan received for Leao? Yeah that was his value, not the release clause number.
A players worth on the market is whatever another team is ready to pay for him. No team even tried to offer half the release clause for Leao.

  5. Using transfermarkt as a guide, Leao’s value has never exceeded 100M, let alone reaching 150M. Any source for the inspired number?
