GdS: Two out, three in – Milan’s squad in the USA to undergo changes

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan squad that are currently out in the United States will undergo some changes from Monday with two players set to depart and three expected to arrive.

According to what is being reported by Luca Bianchin of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the duo that are expected to leave the squad tonight are Lorenzo Colombo and Daniel Maldini. The former is heading for Empoli while the latter will join Monza, where he was on loan for the second half of last season.

The journalist adds that three players will arrive to cover for their absence. The first is Noah Okafor who had a vacation after the European Championship, while the other two are Francesco Camarda and Kevin Zeroli.

The trio will arrive tomorrow, with Camarda and Zeroli having just participated in the U19 European Championship with Italy, which ended with a defeat to Spain in extra-time at the semi-final stage.

Camarda could probably do with a holiday given he played in the Primavera until mid-May, played and won the Under 17 European Championship between May and June, returned to Milan and immediately took part in the Under 17 quarter-finals against Roma and then went to the U19 Euros.

Milan will manage his workload but of course, seeing him in the United States with the first team will be fascinating and it is a sign of his importance to the club. He may get a few minutes against Real Madrid and/or Barcelona, or might just use the chance to train with senior pros.

  1. Morata, Jovic guaranteed now. I doubt Nasti comes in, but he seems confident this summer, maybe only loan.

Hope after Fonseca’s recent comment, Saelemakers will stay.

    1. Why would we string out Nasti any longer?

He clearly has no future at the club given how many strikers we have on the books.

      Same with Saelemaekers.

We already have Pulisic and Chukwueze, and the latter struggled because we signed Pulisic.

I am sorry the decision to keep these players needed to be made last summer. It’s too late now. The squad is too big and we need to sell about 20 players just to get it down to a manageable size of about 23.

This is why I advocate for more focused transfers. Like that DM we still haven’t signed and looks like we will never sign if buy Fofana.

        1. Pulisic can cover for Leao on the left to give Chukwueze games.

          And what about Okafor?

And what about youth players coming through in that position?

They signed Álex Jiménez so now he either plays further up the field or we can forget about Bartesaghi who also has to compete with Terracciano (who was another pointless signing).

          Also there’s Liberali and Sia.

          There isn’t the space.

Barcelona have 5 players for 6 attacking positions one of whom is Yamal.

Why does Milan need 6 or 7 or whatever?

The squad is a mess. We signed too many players, and most of these pre-season players will be loaned or sold before the start of the season meaning the whole pre-season is a waste of time.

          1. Agreed…. Some signings were pointless (like Teracciano, CDK, Florenzi on permanent basis etc). So yeah we can’t keep everyone. Players need to be sold

    1. What would we have done with them?

There’s no space in the squad.

Apparently we’re trying to sign another CF which will take us to about 3 (Morata, Jovic and New Signing) + Carmada.

The best thing we can hope for now is that we finally learn that burying young players under a mountain of new signings and sending them off on pointless, endless loans, doesn’t work.

And then hopefully Carmada can avoid the same fate (as we try and sign a three CF this summer).

      1. Hopefully, we won’t get another striker (unless a terrific surprise which I won’t mind).
Samardzic won’t come unless we sell one or 2 of Pobega and Adli. Also RLC sucks as an AM anyways.
Fofana’s deal won’t go anywhere, so I guess the management will finally move for a true DM.

  2. “There’s no space in the squad.

Apparently we’re trying to sign another CF which will take us to about 3 (Morata, Jovic and New Signing) + Carmada.”

No new signing –> Keep Colombo and save 15-20M€. Simple. Problem solved.

      1. We don’t need either of them.

Fofana is not a DM. He’s another box to box.

As was pointed out to me…..Samardzic is not a DM either….so I have no idea why we’re linked with an AM.

What’s the plan for RLC and Zeroli?

        1. Based on what I’ve seen Zeroli won’t be ready for a few years. And will probably be sold elsewhere without giving a proper chance as it’s the Italian way.

RLC needs competition to improve. I’d prefer Pulisic pushing Chuku on the RW position and not RLC as #10. A bit of creativity in the #10 wouldn’t hurt us and therefore I have nothing against Samardzic coming.

    1. That would solve a problem.

There’s definitely no space for Nasti, and I have no idea what will happen with Okafor if we keep Saelemaekers.

      1. I don’t think anyone knows what will happen with Okafor. He did OK with the limited minutes last year and this year he would have zero excuses not to perform even better but who knows whether he’ll even be in Milan when the season starts.

  3. I understund we need to make space, but Colombo is what we need, young italian striker, I would rather sell Jovic then Colombo ( he is going on loan ) because it is look’s like he can be good under Fonseca’s style… but it is Hard to say who is better, too many players in attack . Okafor, Leao, Puli, Chuk, Alexis, Morata, Jovic, Colombo for 3 places… it is Hard to choice

    1. Having multiple good choices is a good thing. No one can sit on his @ss thinking “I’ll start the next match anyway” as there would be proper competition for the minutes.
