GdS: Milan have three midfield targets in mind amid Tonali’s injury

By Isak Möller -

Milan were always expected to bring in a midfielder this summer but due to the injury of Sandro Tonali, they might have to act faster than first thought. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have three targets in mind, a report claims.

Tonali sustained an injury in Milan’s friendly against Vicenza last night and he will undergo tests tomorrow to determine the extent of it. He will miss the opener against Udinese but everything beyond that is uncertain.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Maldini and Massara could be forced to act faster on the market to make up for Tonali’s absence. They have three targets in mind after missing out on Renato Sanches, who has officially joined PSG.

Raphael Onyedika (Midtjylland) and Jean Onana (Bordeaux) are on the Rossoneri’s radar and Tottenham’s Pape Sarr is lurking in the background. All three of them are young (21, 22, 19) and have already shown their quality at a high level.

It remains to be seen what Maldini and Massara will do but first, we will have to wait for the outcome of Tonali’s tests. If it’s just an overstretch, then Milan don’t need to rush the midfield signing.

  1. Pape Sarr should be the primary target especially if loan deal similar to Bakayoko is possible.

Onyedika could work as secondary target.

Onana should not be considered due to the difficulty in registering him at Serie A.

  2. For the game against Udinese, it’s too late.
They should’ve thought about this earlier.
Last season, Milan suffered many injuries: Ibra, Leao, Kjaer, Calabria, Rebic, Bennacer….
This year the season is more demanding with more games and a World Cup in between….Milan should have cleared the team from players that cannot offer anything and brought quality signings. Of course for that you need a significant amount of budget that Maldini doesn’t have unfortunately.

    1. Don’t worry, Krunic the Reliable, favorite of Pioli, is already in the squad. 😎

Didn’t last season we lose both Kessie and Bennacer at the same time for almost a month due to AFCON? We only had Tonali, Krunic, and Bakayoko at that period.

  3. I think only few our player go to world cup. Only french player,CDK ( if he starter on AC Milan match), leao, ballo toure. Nothing to worry about . But we need to sign powerful box to box player this summer because bakayoko awful

    1. Ibrahim Sangare or jean onana could be a great signing. We need tall DM that can help the CB’s on the air & can be a good target..

  4. Maldini and Massara needs to find a way to get Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo. He is the perfect man for that midfield. He and Tonali will run wild. Plus he is so versatile and can play all over the midfield. Similar to Renato Sanches just less technical and better defensively.
I know he costs 30+ mil, but a Locatelli kind of a deal can probably be worked out. He went to Juventus on an initial 2 year loan.
