GdS: Milan to discuss captaincy at start of preseason – Kjaer’s name gathers momentum

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are thinking about giving Simon Kjaer the captain’s arm band ahead of next season should Alessio Romagnoli leave, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive) writes how Kjaer became a protagonist for what he did during the frightening moments after Christian Eriksen collapsed, which gave rise to the hashtag #KjaerCapitano and could now become a reality.

It is true that you don’t need an armband to be a leader and captain and Kjaer leads by example with his performances as well as his conduct, but Milan could soon find themselves having to choose a new captain given Alessio Romagnoli’s future is uncertain and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to lead.

At the beginning of preseason, scheduled for 8 July, the team will discuss the issue and Kjaer could make everyone agree given the opinion of the fans and that of his team-mates will hardly be different. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a contender too, as are Franck Kessie and Davide Calabria.

  1. Why are we breaking tradition? Il Capitano is the player with the most tenure and that should be Calabria. Not saying that Kjaer is not deserving but we saw what happened when we handed the captaincy to Bonucci. Let us stick with our values and traditions. Players like Kjaer and Kessie do not need an armband to lead.

  2. Zlatan should be the captain and Kjaer his vice then Kessie deputy to Kjaer forget about most appearances we need men to lead and not boys.
