AC Milan could go back in for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic during the summer transfer window, a report claims.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive), Milenkovic has already made the decision not to renew his contract with Fiorentina – which expires in 2022 – because he wants to move to a club better positioned to compete for trophies. Milan have really been following him for a long time and he is a player that both Stefano Pioli and Paolo Maldini like very much.
Pioli coached him at Fiorentina and last season he wanted him at Milan, however it will not be easy as new Fiorentina boss Gennaro Gattuso wants to retain his best players. Not only that, but there is competition from Juventus and Inter who have also set their sights on Nikola.
Rocco Commisso’s Viola are a very expensive shop too, because despite the fact his deal runs out in a year, Fiorentina would only let Milenkovic leave for a sum close to €35m. Most likely, however, Milan will try again this summer.
