GdS: San Siro tonight, school on Monday – the fairytale of Camarda

By Isak Möller -

Francesco Camarda has been called up for tonight’s game between AC Milan and Fiorentina. It’s an emergency solution for Stefano Pioli, but there’s also no doubt that the 15-year-old has impressed as of late.

The striker has bagged seven goals for Milan’s Primavera side this season. Three of them were scored in the UEFA Youth League, where most of the players are 18 or 19. Milan have made their focus on young talents clear, and Camarda is at the forefront.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), Camarda’s family will be at San Siro tonight for Milan-Fioentina. And who knows, maybe the fourth official’s board will light up with the number 73 towards the end of the game.

If so, Camarda would become the youngest player in history to make his Serie A debut. “Talent has no age. He’s happy to be with us and is ready to lend us a hand,” Pioli stated during his press conference yesterday.

Camarda regularly alternates training, as well as games, with school. Unlike many of the players in Milan’s academy, he attends a regular high school as opposed to a sports high school. And he has managed to combine books and football with great success.

The youngster has a very important physical structure for his age (184cm tall). In his spare time, similarly to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he practises boxing and kickboxing. In the Milan academy, he has constantly been ahead of his time, always playing with the older players. And now that is the case with the first team as well.
