GdS: Milan targeting €60m PSG midfielder – Mendes could help broker deal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are on the hunt for a defensive midfielder ahead of next season and one of the opportunities that could arise is Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain, a report claims.

As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports, the main priority for the Milan management is to hire a head coach and sign a striker who can replace Olivier Giroud, with Sergio Conceicao and Benjamin Sesko the leading candidates.

Then the attentions will turn to other areas. Milan will need a central defender who will restore solidity to the department, which has recently appeared too weak and they will also make some moves on the flanks too.

They will sign a left-back if Theo Hernandez leaves and a right-back to compete with the captain Davide Calabria. The name that is currently top of the list is Tottenham’s Emerson Royal who is 25 years old and has a price tag of €30m which is ‘possibly negotiable’.

For the midfiekd Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana remains a target but the new name is Ugarte, a 23-year-old at PSG who has a €60m release clause having signed for the same amount from Sporting CP last summer.

Jorge Mendes, the agent who looks after his interests, could help broker the deal, perhaps on loan. Even more so if Sergio Conceiçao, another of his clients, arrived at Milan.

    1. Exactly. All these players: Ugarte, Sesko, Zirkzee, etc…all over 50M. Ya sure. We struggle to sign a player for 20M and salaries over 4M and all of a sudden we are spending double for a player??? LOL.

      Moneyball.

  1. Fofana of Monaco is cheaper and more defensive minded midfielder…. Why go for a more expensive player that hardly get playing time with PSG.

The manage had the chance to sign Ugarte at lower fee season ago. But sant to pay much now. Except its a loan deal but still i prefer fofana

    1. Ugarte played 35 games this season so he is getting plenty of minutes. Clubs like PSG, City & Reak are luxury clubs where they have plenty of world class players outside of their ideal starting 11. Ugarte is a better fit for Milan’s style of play than Fofana

  2. My choice would be Wieffer from Feyenoord. More expensive but worth all the money. He’s value will go up a lot over time. The kind of player with personality, value, leadership. The kind of player who becomes the captain of his team. This summer is a unique opportunity to transfer such a player in the person of Wieffer.

    1. I agree, Wieffer is good, and I think we can get him for 30-35 million, which is less than what ugarte will cost
