Theo Hernandez published a goodbye message to the AC Milan fans yesterday and it was controversial to say the least. As highlighted this morning, it wasn’t appreciated by the club.
It had been in the pipeline for quite some time, but Al-Hilal officially announced the signing of Hernandez yesterday afternoon. It’s believed that Milan will get €25-30m for the player, while the latter will earn around €20m per year at his new club (!).

Given the importance of the Frenchman over the years, especially in the Scudetto season, it’s not a sale that the fans have celebrated heavily. In his goodbye message, Hernandez also sent a message to the club: “Some recent decisions do not reflect the values or ambition that brought me here”.
Milan react to farewell message
As reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), the farewell message wasn’t exactly appreciated by Milan. The Rossoneri believe that they protected the player at all times, even when his performances weren’t good, and the message thus surprised them.
Between an evident drop in quality, along with no consistency whatsoever, Milan felt that they couldn’t offer a renewal at the figures Hernandez requested. As such, when he criticised the club in the message, the Rossoneri felt he didn’t take his own faults into consideration.
Nevertheless, all parties now consider the chapter closed and will move on to other matters. Then again, Milan could have done without the controversy and inevitable chatter among the fans; a direct result of Theo’s words.
I used to defend him but now he is just showing that he is not mature enough to play in a real club.

Fullbacks stopped defending well 15 years ago. These days they use zonal marking and speed to defend. That means you need more complete Midfielders to defend by committee and more technical defenders on the ball to maintain possession or distribute. He is the highest scoring in his position in the history of the club. Once they started inverting our FB and got less mobile Midfielders his game dipped. So his comments made sense. We never replace Kessie or Tonali then the entire backline suffered. Kalulu left for peanuts and our right side has been a mess. So he is on to something.

Nobody forced them. Mike requested a transfer in June and he didn’t want to renew. That’s logical. Theo case was that he was too relax and didn’t sign thus Milan lowered their former offer.

This is the biggest B.S. statement from a player who is just trying to save face after being dumped by the club and basically having no offers from any top teams trying to get him. Almost everything about Theo’s statement is dishonest.

Disobeying the coach. Stealing penalties away from his teammate and missing. Getting suspended for 2 matches for arguing with the refs after the match. Getting sent off in a must win Champions League match for 2 ridiculous yellow cards. Do you know how many millions of dollars that cost the club? Those are really great values Theo has. And for someone who makes no effort to get back on defense to talk about ambition is just too funny. Good riddance to this selfish man-child. He is where he belongs now.

Theo had a horrible year, both in terms of performances and attitude, but let’s not act like he is a finished player or that this situation wasn’t salvageable. He gave up which is sad but I have no problem with him calling out the club.
Keep in mind, his frustration (and mine) with the club started a season earlier with the sacking of Maldini and Massara, the Tonali sale, and the random transfers that destroyed our team. He more or less kept it together for a season, even deputizing well at center back. What followed was more chaos and he snapped. Let’s not forget, it’s been two seasons, not one, of finishing 19 points behind the Serie A champion and exiting the Champions League in the first round despite spending 250 million.

Milan doesn’t want him to stay because if allegri plays him (which he would) and theo has a good season then they would be forced to renew at a higher price. Milan was thinking they are doing good business and could get $40m for him and replace him for $20m + $3m a year for some “potential” star player. On a different note, asking $2m more on a 4 year contract is only $8m. If he walks for free milan has to pay at least $15m + $3m a year to get some one decent. so thats $27m for 4 years for the new guy or $28m for 4 years of theo….The agents do the calculations and ask a reasonable raise

Well said. I think its clear the new management want 20m players in their early 20’s to sell at 40m 5 years later (in their prime) to profit off the transfer, keeping payroll at min. Berulsonci, later Maldini — wanted a long standing core that brought success. Zlatan and Silva were sold when Silvio’s Mediaset (legal owners of AC Milan) got massive court fine to pay. This ownership supposedly stabilised the club to the point they don’t need to sell. Or at least it’s what our CEO told the media. Falling out of CL showed how stable this club is. Everything depends on CL qualifications. Fragile as ever.
Or some of us non-delusional fans remember an almost decade of terrible results, no scudettos and not qualifying for the Champions League for 7 years straight before American ownership took over and brought this club it’s first Scudetto in 10 years while dragging the club out of massive debt and making it profitable again.

What happened after the Scudetto? Maldini, Massara and Gazidis gone. Tonali sold off. Furlani and the clowns in charge gradually got you to eighth place and completely out of Europe. Ignore that.
