GdS: Milan management have the will to sign a centre-back but not the urgency

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will try to sign a new central defender this January before the window closes, a report claims, but they will only do so under the right conditions.

During his pre-match press conference before the Udinese game last week, Pioli confirmed that he would like a centre-back and a central midfielder to arrive before the end of the month.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) reports that Milan’s January mercato could close with one more signing, namely a centre-back to bolster the defensive department.

However, the idea is not to make a big investment in a player now but rather to acquire a bridge to get through to June. Milan are waiting until the beginning of next week to understand if they will be able to sign a central defender on favourable terms.

In other words, the will is there to sign another defender but the urgency is not. The idea is to sign a player only under the right conditions, without overpaying for someone due to a perceived emergency.

Lilian Brassier is waiting at Brest: he wants Milan but knows that the chances are decreasing day by day. Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea) has a history of physical problems, Clement Lenglet (Aston Villa) is complicated while Tosin Adarabioyo (Fulham) is interesting but more for June.
