GdS: Milan’s predicted XI vs. Sassuolo – Heavy rotation as only two players remain

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Sassuolo tomorrow afternoon and following the mid-week clash against Roma, Stefano Pioli is expected to make heavy rotation. Indeed, except for Mike Maignan and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, he could change the entire starting eleven.

It was a disappointing evening for the Rossoneri underneath the San Siro floodlights, losing 0-1 in front of the club owner Gerry Cardinale. With the reverse leg scheduled for next Thursday, Milan will need to preserve as much energy as possible.

With second place more or less secured in the league, or at least Champions League qualification, Pioli is set to make some heavy rotation tomorrow. As per Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (see photo below), he could change the entire XI except for Maignan.

Alessandro Florenzi, Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori are certain to start at the back but the youngster Filippo Terracciano could also get the chance, replacing Theo Hernandez. Yunus Musah and Yacine Adli will make up the midfield tandem, while it will be the ‘reserve trio’ up front.

Predicted Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Florenzi, Kjaer, Tomori, Terracciano; Musah, Adli; Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Okafor; Jovic.

It’s certainly a gamble to make so many changes, but Sassuolo have struggled this season and the truth is that Milan need to focus on the Roma game.

  1. What a f**k is a gamble @Isak Möller are they not good enough to play?
Do you also want the sets of player that disgraced their owner and their fans before them to play without rotating other players who are hungry to play which I see in Chukwueze etc.

    1. First of all, mind the language. Second, have you not followed Milan these last few years? Maxi-rotations have almost never ended well. That being said, I’m not against it, but still a gamble

  2. Pioli sometimes is stupid how can he play with tomori in this game while we know he is away to be suspended for one yellow card and then the next game is crucial for us we can lost 10 games but not to inter

  3. Works for me, not too fussed about the result and gives these players chance to stake a claim. For their own sake, they should be able to do something here.

  4. Rotation gives everyone the chance to prove their worth. Lately, a lot of the players from the bench have done well. Would like to see Okafor start tomorrow, and against Roma. Only problem is, Giroud doesn’t do much when he comes in as a substitute. If the coach can use Kjaer and Thiaw at the back, save Tomori and Gabbia for Thursday, and the weekend. A draw is good enough for tomorrow’s game, but, I have watched our guys play out their hearts away. Somehow, I don’t have any fears for the two games. Roma will hear from us on Thursday
