GdS: Milan and Zirkzee’s agent in stand-off over ‘insane’ commission demands

By Oliver Fisher -

The Joshua Zirkzee situation remains a ‘puzzle’ that AC Milan are looking to solve, as there is still a gap on the commissions that his agent is requesting.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, Zirkzee’s representative Kia Joorabchian wants €15m in commissions from Zirkzee’s next move. Milan have no budget problems, they have a positive balance sheet and can afford to buy without selling, but it is more a question of principle rather than money.

The amount to be allocated to Zirkzee’s agent would be more than a third of the cost of the transfer fee (his €40m release clause) and not only for this reason is it considered ‘insane’. Milan will not pay 15 million but not even ten or any other reckless figure: they will instead pay the amount they deem in line with the market and the value of the player in question.

Paying €40m, without considering extra expenses, would make Zirkzee the third most expensive transfer in the Rossoneri’s history. On the top step of the podium is Bonucci at €42m, in second is Rui Costa with €41m.

Adding the commissions would see Zirkzee climb to number one, and so while the relationship is not broken between Milan and Kia, things are currently on standby and will be able to resume if the demands are lowered.

It is unlikely that Milan will dial the number and try to restart the dialogue: on the contrary, they expect Joorabchian to come forward and mend the (still repairable) rift. Milan have chosen Zirkzee and Paulo Fonseca would like him too.

The interest is reciprocated because the striker prefers the idea of joining another club in Italy despite interest from teams abroad, while the legacy of Marco van Basten and the presence of his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic only strengthen the desire.

Zirkzee has now been included in the list of players called up for the European Championship. His name was not included in the initial list, but Koeman called him after the injury to Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners.

The 23-year-old will thus join the national team and the story could also have repercussions on the transfer market. Will Kia take more time, waiting to see if an unexpected European exploit could increase Zirkzee’s valuation? And maybe make commission requests go up further?

Milan are not in a hurry either: they are strong in their convictions and there are a number of alternatives too, like Serhou Guirassy, Romelu Lukaku, Jonathan David and Artem Dovbyk.

  1. Rui Costa deal must be by lengths the most expensive player in the history of AC Milan considering inflation. Same goes for the sale of Kaka compared to the Tonali sale.

    1. Rui Costa 🤩 imo money well spent lol 😂. I actually hated that Kaka displaced him at first because I loved how Rui dribbled on the pitch. They he glided past players

    2. Rui Costa was signed in the 2000’s lol. Bonucci in 2017…there a a thing called inflation.

55M for a 23 year old starting striker w immense talent and upside and resale value who has experience in the league is a solid investment IMO. Get this done and move on before Man U or Juve comes and steals him.

Again we wouldn’t be in this position had we just signed Thurman for FREE last season…well now you have to PAY – which was exactly the point I made for paying Thurman the extra 500k to begin with.

Better sign him now before his stock goes up after the Euros….

  2. Okay, then move on.
It doesn’t make any sense that the agent is asking 25% of the player contract termination fees. Are you his agent or the one who conceived him with his Mom.

No more players like Raiola kids, these are great players but a constant headache and a source to destabilize the group

  3. I’d start talks with Dovbyk immediately. And if buy the time they are finished leech Kia doesn’t come to his senses then ciao.

You know even if we land zirkzee who’s to say Kia won’t try this shît again when it’s time to extend the contract. 100% will ask for big commission, again

    1. This is my concern. If this were the one and only time it happened I could maybe stomach it. It won’t be though.

  4. I can’t understand why Fifa or the clubs themselves aren’t doing anything about these blood sucking leeches. Their fee’s are becoming absolutely ridiculous.

  5. At this point, I will rather we do not take him, and focus to other alternatives. Why? Let say they can somehow conclude and close the deal, but then new drama can be expected eberytime new contract is on talk. Like having a ticking bomb in squad. So, for me, better no.

  6. The release clauses are suppose to make sure the player cant be held hostage by their club. Instead it has become a way for agents to demand insane commissions in cases where the value of the player exceeds the release clause.

UEFA/FIFA really need to start implementing a number of rules on these leeches to limit their power

  7. I will make the official fee for 43 mil just to past that Bonucci’s records. Seeing him at top of our most expensive transfer is just shameful.

  8. Davids or Dovbyk would be my preference. Laugh at me but I gladly take Dybala too. Dybala if not injured scores 20 goals per season and will help pulisic and leao be involved more.
