GdS: Milan’s plan to finance new stadium in La Maura emerges

By Oliver Fisher -

More information continues to emerge regarding the plans that AC Milan have in mind for the construction of their new stadium.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) this morning, Milan are constructing their plans for new stadium to be built in the La Maura racecourse area. To build the facility an investment value of €500-600m is estimated, which of course will not cover the entire cost.

The remaining value – which should be around the same amount – would be made up of a loan with a 10 or 15-year repayment plan. These types of loans are very common in such projects and are almost inevitable given the huge costs involved.

It is a slightly different plan compared to the original project launched alongside Inter back in 2019 as the idea with that was for the two clubs to split the cost, with €600m each being put towards the €1.2bn stadium.

  1. They already have 500 or 600 million euros and the rest of 500 million will be covered from loan? That one billion stadium should be awesome to repay that big investment.

    1. When you consider they will triple their revenue from the stadium plus any ancillary concerts, events, etc will go straight to their coffers. It’s not like it is not needed for trying to keep up with top European leagues that have stadium ownership or major TV rights deals like La Liga or EPL.

Look at Arsenal/Tottenham for example on what new stadiums have done for their fan base and financials. Or more closely look at Juve.

  2. Don’t forget, after the stadium was built, Milan could also sell the naming rights for a nice sum if needed. Spurs is aiming to get 20-25M/year for the naming rights of their stadium, and just to be conservative, I think 10-15M/year would be viable. That amount should be able to help parts of the loan.

Think about it this way, we’re paying 8.5M yearly to use San Siro. Why not just use that money to help finance our own stadium? The income from owning our own stadium is also projected to be triple the amount earned now.

I love San Siro, but we will get left behind if we don’t move forward.
