GdS: Milan’s plans depend on top four – Tomori, Brahim Diaz, Donnarumma and more

By Oliver Fisher -

It is useless to deny at this point that a lot of AC Milan’s plans for the future rest on Sunday’s game against Atalanta and whether or not a top four finish arrives.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), without qualification for the top European club competition, Milan would be forced to revise their plans. There are budgets and purchases planned, such as that of Dusan Vlahovic, a very expensive striker who is the No.1 choice of the management.

The strategies of the club and the confirmation of certain players will depend on the Champions League. Fikayo Tomori, for example, might not accept playing for a team that does not participate in the Champions League. Brahim Diaz is happy at the club and another year of loan could be functional for everyone, but even this deal depends on returning to the European competition that matters.

Then there are the thornier issues such as the future of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu. Gigio loves Milan and would like to stay, but without the contributions that would come from the Champions League, keeping him would be complicated. It would be difficult to renew Calhanoglu’s contract without top four as he wants a top salary, and above all the safety of playing on the main European stage.
