GdS: Milan’s system has become predictable – Pioli must pull a rabbit out of the hat

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli must find a way to change his tactics and get more out of his team before the end of the season, a report claims.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport writes, the post-lockdown run that Milan went on from March 2020 was also in large part down to the excellent physical condition of the team. The program of Pioli’s staff made the squad able to withstand a certain level and intensity of athletic work.

This season the calendar began with Europa League preliminaries and there have been over 50 games since, but now Milan have hit the buffers and the 4-2-3-1 so dear to Pioli – albeit with some slight changes such as the 4-2-2-2 seen against Sassuolo – has gradually lost its effectiveness.

Interestingly, the data does not show drops in the level of running, distance traveled and other parameters which suggests that what has changed is how well the tactical approach works. Changing during the game and during the season is always difficult, especially doing it in the last five rounds of a hard-fought Serie A season, but Piolinow needs a rabbit to take out of the hat to make his side less predictable.
