GdS: Milan’s updated starting XI after securing Emerson Royal signing – photo

AC Milan have secured the arrival of Emerson Royal, with medicals scheduled for Monday, and he will be the third signing of the summer. Although Davide Calabria is the captain, the Brazilian could replace him in the starting XI.

Today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see image below) highlighted Milan’s updated XI for the upcoming season, following the signing of Emerson Royal. As you can see in the image, the Rossoneri might not have a single Italian from start.

Of course, if Emerson does replace Calabria in the right-back spot, then Theo Hernandez will wear the captain’s armband. It goes without saying that the Rossoneri accelerated the talks for the Brazilian full-back due to Alessandro Florenzi, who should miss the season due to injury.

The first game of the season is scheduled for Saturday next week and Calabria will likely be the starter on the right-hand side. Alvaro Morata has also joined his new club but just like Emerson, he will likely be on the bench for the first game.

  1. Rlc is not a pivot… Bennacer is the best player in our squad in that position… Even if we get fofana we should play him alongside bennacer..

    1. Bennacer is not physically strong enough to play Inna double pivot. This is why Bennacer was benched in favor of Keunicnik the scudetto season and why Milan suffered defensively after Kessie left. Bennacer lack basic characteristics of a DM. Last season they even had to our Adli on to stabilize the midfield often, because Bennacer looked like a confused child in there. RLC is not perfect for it, but He has the physical attributes to be a great DM. He can grow in that position

      1. You are talking pure mess chap. Bennacer has been our better midfielder. He only dropped when he suffered the injury and being out for almost a whole season takes time regain fitness and rhythm.

  2. RLC- Reijnders is not gonna cut it as a double pivot.

Still need a DM and play Reijnders/Bennacer beside them

    or

Use 433 for which the squad was built.

We can always switch systems, 433 against bigger teams and 4231 against lesser teams or when we need a goal

    Either system requires a DM!!!!!!!!

  3. This is modern cardinale milan. Full of foreign. Now we need new foreign captain. It should be our highest paid player leao.

  4. The real starting XI will eventually thin out to be :
    Mike
    Calabria – Tomori – Gabbia – Theo
    Reinjders – Bennacer
    Puli – ??? – Leao
    Morata

“???” Is likely to be RLC once more
Or if Fonsy is brave swap position between RLC and Deers

    1. Interesting.

What makes you think that Pav will not start at CB?

If Tomori can’t recover his form they could well be forced to turn to Gabbia again.

And it does seem like Fonseca’s keen to freeze out the captain.

      1. I don’t think Pav has come up to speed as of yet and we haven’t seen him in preseason. It’s difficult to get playing time straight off the bat like that in real games. I’m not worried about Calabria, he’ll be just fine.
Matter of fact it could be that Emerson is bought to play CB backup, who knows 🤷‍♂️

  5. I think a lot of you are living in the past when it comes to Bennacer. I see him as slow ,floats at times and is simply a step behind with his aggression. SELL !!!!!

  6. Okay. In the derby against inter, we will lose by 10 goals to nil, home and away. If we meet in the copa italia and ucl then it will probably get to a total of 20 goals to 1.
AC Milan is now a total disgrace without any Italian players.
Calabria is big shit for an Italian defender.
Inter starts with up-to 5 Italians and they now what the derby means.
We will get destroyed by inter, 5 years running.
    Cardinale is a moron.
