GdS: Probable Milan XI to face Dortmund – Adli and Chukwueze set to start

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are expected to start with a different formation against Borussia Dortmund to the 4-3-3 they have used all season and it will see Yacine Adli come into the starting eleven, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), Stefano Pioli is ready to tweak his shape slightly in order to ensure that Milan make it through to the Champions League round of 16.

There are no surprises in terms of the defence as Mike Maignan will have Davide Calabria, Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez ahead of him, but the formation will be a 4-2-3-1.

Adli and Tijjani Reijnders are the predicted two midfielders, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek in a slightly more advanced role with Samuel Chukwueze and Christian Pulisic on either side of him. Having missed the Fiorentina match through suspension, Olivier Giroud returns as striker.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Adli, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic; Giroud.

Probable Dortmund XI (4-2-3-1): Kobel; Ryerson, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Ozcan, Can; Reus, Brandt, Bynoe-Gittens; Füllkrug.

  1. Wow, what a news for Adli fans? Now please don’t wish for our players to get injured. No matter how much you hate a player just don’t think stuff like that about them.

  2. I have done my cross evaluation Dortmund can’t beat Acmilan is going to be difficult for them Acmilan will destroy Dortmund completely no argument because Acmilan players all of them are exprenced and solid so Acmilan is going with victory

  3. Adli as a starter? LOL. No. It’s not 1st of April. WTF is going on? Has Pioli lost it? Is he just trolling the media and confusing the opponent? Mind-games. That must be it. I bet it’s just Krunic with a wig on.

    1. Pioli is very clever! He knows that if he loses this match, it would be the end of his coaching career on the Milan bench. So he brought on players, including Adli, who could help him win the match. He knows that Lord Krunic is no match for him. But as long as his seat is not under threat, he can afford to play his lover, even if it means costing us matches and keeping us from the title. Which is not the case tonight: if Milan fall, Pioli will too!

  4. Yes I do fancy our chances of us winning tonight given the fact that most of our best players are available apart from of course Rafeol leao ,it’s a great pity he is injured,,but I have confidence in Aldi ,,,pulisic and Loftus cheek …Yes Loftus Cheek in midfield is a huge bonus as he has all the right credentials,,pace / height ,physical strength and he can pick out sublime passes ,added to that I would not be surprised to seeing him getting foward more tonight ,and maybe even score .
Now let’s come on to another reason we can win ,that simply is we have OLIVIER GIROUD back ..What a player he has turned out to be for us ,,,he has also got strength and his technical ability in an around the 18 yard area ..He not only scores very important goals , but he needs more recognition, that he also provides assists…He is a great team player,,and never lacks belief…I believe we will win tonight ..Giroud on the scoresheet? I wouldn’t bet against it !
    We are AC MILAN..

  5. I guess the ownership have made it clear to Pioli that Krunic isn’t part of the clubs plans and that he better start playing the players he has at his disposal, considering he will most likely be gone in January.

  6. I see no reason in switching the formation at this point, the players for the midfield role will be more comfortable in the 4 3 3, I just hope it’s not the “trying to make a good guy look bad” syndrome that Pioli has he is trying to play. I really hope we win

  7. This is strange. Adli is an unproven youngster who hasn’t played in a while and he’s being thrown into a season-defining game. Either Pioli has decided to give him a run of games (which I am in favor of) or something is wrong with both Krunic and Musah. Hopefully it goes well.

    1. Nothing strange. Pioli already started Adli four times this season; against Cagliari (win), Lazio (win), Genoa (win), and Juve (lost). Last time he played from the bench was against Udinese and made a big blunder. Maybe Pioli thinks the guy is ready for another start.

And i don’t know about Krunic but Musah will be absent because of yellow card accumulation.

      1. Juve(lost). You write this completely wrong. We lost by conceding a goal from Locateli, which shoot chaged direction by Krunic who was subbed in by Pioli for Adli. 3 minutes krunic in we conceded a goal. Adli was playig fine

  8. The real issue tonight is not so much the starting 11 its that we have nobody to bring on.
Hopefully no injuries or red cards.

These CL games are fast and tough so having no fresh legs to bring on is a huge problem.
Florenzi, Pobega, Jovic are certainly not game changers.

I believe we must go at them hard and score a couple in the 1st half. Teams will tire in the 2nd half and we have no options.
Chucky better do something tonight or his Milan career will be seriously called into question

    1. This. Our bench is that of a Serie B team. I also agree we need to score in the first half and then we don’t have to use energy in the second half when there will be less of it. 2-0 by half time and then (hopefully) Pioli will manage the game instead of continuing with the same tactics used at the start.

  9. Google releases lineups 1 HR to kick off.. every time, the entire world knows Milan’s formation and team sheet before game day. 0 element of surprise.

  10. This evening, I think we’ll have to sacrifice the member (Pioli) to stop the bleeding. Even if it’s difficult for us to say tonight, Milan must lose the match and Pioli must be sacked before the next transfer window, so that we can be sure of a top-four finish in the Champions League by the end of the season under another, more lucid coach. Pioli’s problem isn’t competence, because he has competence. Pioli’s problem is his lack of lucidity. And that’s more dangerous than anything else!

  11. RLC will have to work extra-hard to stop Dortmund’s attacks from building-up, because neither Reijnders nor Adli are very good in this department. I think Pioli should also consider not overcomitting to attack and not have too much of a highline.
