Luka Modric was more or less ruled out for the remainder of the season in Milan’s surgery statement, but it seems the veteran has other ideas.
Following a nasty head collision with Manuel Locatelli last weekend, resulting in a cheekbone fracture, Modric was forced to undergo surgery earlier in the week. Milan confirmed in their statement that his season was over, wishing him ‘a speedy recovery ahead of the World Cup’.
However, as reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo at the bottom), the veteran isn’t ready to back down that easily. Indeed, he will be back at Milanello next week as soon as his stitches have been removed (should happen on Tuesday).
Modric with a mask?
Not only is Modric keen on getting back to training, but he also wants to play in Milan’s final game of the season, which is at home against Cagliari. In order to do so, he would have to wear a protective mask to avoid further complications.
As stated by the newspaper, Modrid believes it would calm Croatia ahead of the important World Cup, though it’s also possible that he wants another game at San Siro just in case. Indeed, his future with the club isn’t 100%, especially since the World Cup could affect things as well.

Unless it becomes a must-win game, we should not risk him like that.
Maybe out him on in the last 10 minutes, go give the fans a nice conclusion to the season ✨
I think that it might be his farewell game as it’s possible he won’t renew and will possibly retire after the World Cup.
What the f are you talking about?
