GdS: ‘Debuts and separates’ – Morata set for San Siro welcome after tough announcement

By Oliver Fisher -

Alvaro Morata is likely to make his first appearance in an AC Milan shirt tonight in the Silvio Berlusconi Trophy against Monza at San Siro.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write this morning, Morata is already so immersed in his new adventure that he has begun to imagine the first goal he will score, telling Milan TV: “A ball in behind, the goalkeeper comes out, I move and score into an empty net.”

The smile and the enthusiasm in the eyes of Morata even at the age of 31 and having won nearly everything there is to win should reassure Milan fans. It is an approach that is very reminiscent of Olivier Giroud and, like the Frenchman, the Spaniard seems destined to enter the hearts of the fans quickly.

He is expected to start tonight against Monza in front of over 50,000 people at San Siro against Monza in the game that will honour the memory of Berlusconi. Paulo Fonseca and the fans will have a look at the physical condition of the striker but also how he is psychologically.

The painful separation from his wife Alice Campello was made public yesterday by both on their respective social media accounts with detailed explanations. It was something that was quite surprising since no signs had emerged from their most recent posts.

In people’s eyes, Morata-Campello was one of those unbreakable, enviable couples, apparently close to the threshold of family perfection, and yet the day before his Milan debut it was made clear they had amicably parted.

“After some time of reflection, Alice and I made the decision to separate our ways. They were wonderful years, the fruit of which were our four children, who are without a doubt the best thing we have ever done,” Morata said.

“It’s a painful decision, so we ask for respect and empathy. Don’t make up stories for a minute of spotlight because I repeat: there was no lack of respect at any time, just many continuous misunderstandings that little by little wear things down.”

Alice said: “We decided to separate and it is the most difficult decision we have made in our lives. I would like to specify, as he did, that there were no third parties nor any type of disrespect on the part of either.

“I can only say that in these 8 years I have had a person by my side who has done nothing but give me priority, take care of me and respect me and that is why I cannot allow any type of false speculation.

“Everything we have published so far is the truth, at no point have we faked anything and love doesn’t go away overnight but at this moment we weren’t doing each other any good due to the constant misunderstandings.”
