GdS: Napoli step up the chase for Pioli with De Laurentiis keen – the details

By Euan Burns -

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is keen to make AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli the new coach of his team with Francesco Calzona not expected to remain in place.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Pianeta Milan), the Milan coach is likely to find a landing spot in Serie A next season despite his journey with the Rossoneri seeming to come to an end.

Pioli has got one year left on his Milan contract but with the season coming to a disappointing end, he will not be offered a new deal and should be fairly easy for a team like Napoli to poach this summer.

De Laurentiis has chosen Pioli as the new coach, after a poor season in which Rudi Garcia, Walter Mazzari and Francesco Calzona have failed to emulate the work of Luciano Spalletti.

Napoli want to offer Pioli a two-year contract with the option for a third season, which shows that they are wary of another poor appointment.

The salary would be €3m per season as well as bonuses, which is much lower than the €4.5m that Pioli receives at Milan. They could meet in the middle given Pioli may be due severance pay from the last year of his Milan contract.
