GdS: ‘No Arabia’ – Fonseca to reintegrate Bennacer with move off the table

By Ben Dixon -

Throughout the summer, it has seemed that AC Milan and Ismael Bennacer would part ways. However, with the European and Saudi Arabian markets closed, a new solution must be found.

Before the summer, Milan fans were hit with a major blow – a star could depart. In the weeks that followed, debates were rife about which star was most sacrificable. Then, there was a suggestion that a star would not leave, and instead, a player like Bennacer could be sacrificed for the squad to improve.

Today is September 3, and Bennacer remains, and this opens up an intriguing conversation about the Algerian midfielder. Where do we go next?

As Gazzetta dello Sport writes, the SPL market has now closed, the midfielder is still present, and now, he must be reintegrated. However, there should be some ease with this, given the Rossoneri have still not looked complete in midfield. Perhaps, this is where Bennacer comes in.

This comes with its own problem, though. The player must now return to his best physical and emotional condition, as Gazzetta claims. Therefore, Paulo Fonseca and the club must now engage with plans to move together as one.

An issue exists, Bennacer is one of the highest-paid players at the club, and with him remaining, he must prove his worth on the pitch. However, how Fonseca moulds his midfield moving forward is an intriguing headache.

  1. I don’t think that Rabiot would be any improvement over Bennacer. I am happy he will stay with us. However, I fear that with Fonseca in charge we won’t win anything this year. I don’t see him having any vision or any actionable plan. The sooner we let him go, the better our chances of saving the season will be.

  2. We are so lucky a move didn’t work out, despite what management tried to do.

If we play 4231 Bennacer, T.J and Fofana are 3 players for 2 positions.

If we play 433 he is still vital either as a mezzala or to back up Fofana at DM (neither a true DM).

Imagine if he had left, it would be another monumental failure on the level of the Emerson/Kalulu disaster

    1. Reijnders really has to step up. Either he plays in front of the defense and it’s concerning as he doesn’t know how to defend, either he plays as a trequartista but he can barely shoot on target. He’s a bust unless he can prove his worth somewhere on the field.

  3. He should try 4-3-3 where midfield will be Benny, Raijnders and Fofana… after break Morata will be back and I’m really interested if there will be any improve or not. We play first game against Venice, it must be win and 0 goals conceded .. if not , then management need to do something immediately because I’m optimistic, we can do good this season still, it is just a 3th round and we are “only ” 5 point behind the 1st..
Then against Liverpool and Inter it will be decisive for Mr. Fonseca

  4. This is how our team suppose to look
    Maignan
    Calabria-Tomori-Pavlovic-Theo
    Benercer-Fofana
    Pulisic-Reinders-Leao
    Morata/Jovic
That is the simple 4231, and he should try to motivate them and stick to them

    1. For a 4-2-3-1 that line -up except Jovic. Tammy is much better then Jovic , with his presence , link-up and physicality.
Jovic is a goal scoring poacher but also a ghost, who offers nothing else to the team.

  5. Good!

If we are sticking to 4231 then I think Fonseca should just allow Bennacer and Fofana to play into form and build a relationship, with Musah as cover and Reijnders as a different option.

I’ll get panned for this but I’d put Zeroli in as the starting 10 and give him time to own it.

But I’d actually go 433 with Bennacer, Fofana and Reijnders with Zeroli and Musah as cover.

In both scenarios, RLCs work here is done. He can go and look like he hates football somewhere else.

  6. Benercer is perfect I prefer Acmilan to sacrifice Loftus cheek and tomori if Acmilan want to stupidily offer benercer then Acmilan should land a solid attacking midfield

  7. Let me get this straight. The club decided to keep and reintegrate a technically sound player who happens to be the only proven and tactically aware midfielder we have?! Genius!

    1. Technically aware midfielder that still struggles in the double pivot?

They tried to upgrade on him, which Rabiot would have been no matter what the public opinion is. But that failed. So yea, reintegrate him back in, but drop the double pivot and get the most out of Benny.

  8. Horrible the way this was handled with Benny…but can’t say we should be surprised with this consistent calamity of foolish errors this inexperienced management team continues to make.

Switch to a 4-3-3 – for the love of god – our genius management only purchased box to box mids – no double pivots except for Benny. Put Reindjers with Benny and Fofana – and see what happens.

Oh ya – and get a new coach 😂

  9. I think we should replace Fonseca. I don’t see him real coach for Ac Milan. We were beter with Pioli in my opinion. We will not win nothing with Fonseca.
