GdS: ‘Unstable situations’ – Milan forward trio must improve or risk being sold

AC Milan’s attack is constantly evolving and there are three players who must prove that they are worth a spot in the squad beyond this season, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport talks about how Milan are looking at three wingers – namely Andreas Skov Olsen, Noa Lang and Ismaila Sarr – because of the ‘unstable situations’ surrounding three current forwards.

The first of these is Luka Jovic who has been particularly inconsistent. He started on the periphery after his deadline day arrival from Fiorentina last summer, but he scored nine goals, earned a renewal and got the No.9 shirt that Olivier Giroud vacated.

However, things have gone downhill since the arrival of Tammy Abraham as an alternative attacking resource. Since then, Jovic has played just 78 minutes across three league games, with no goals, and he was excluded from the Champions League squad list.

Things have gone a bit better for Noah Okafor, who deserves credit for the equaliser against Torino in round one, but he failed to take advantage of chances as a starter against Parma and Lazio, when Rafael Leao started on the bench.

From Samuel Chukwueze there is still no sign of life. He was the most expensive signing of the 2023 summer window, had an up and down debut season, then offered encouragement in preseason. So far he has two games as a starter and another six in total starting from the bench without ever managing to make an impact.

The former ‘king of dribbling in LaLiga’ is not repaying the investment yet and if he is unable to offer his contribution to the team in the coming weeks, the club could look around and accept even lower figures than what they paid.

The principle also applies to Okafor, who cost €14m in the summer of 2023, but in this case Milan will ask for more than what was spent. For Jovic, the economic issue is relative because he arrived on a free and could even leave on a free.

  1. They’ve not had enough minutes and they won’t get enough minutes so it’s a waste of time.

We ideally should have 5 players for the 3 attacking roles.

Ideally 3 wingers covering 2 with the capacity to move into the middle. Okafor has the characteristics to do that and we should keep him and give him chances.

We then just need 2 strikers. Jovic has no chance. We could give his wage to a charity or me and we wouldn’t lose anything.

Not ideal. Let’s say the two on the bench are wingers. What to do when the CF is out of form or injured? Yeah, let’s repeat the “let’s use the trequartista-Adli as a DM” -tactic and play people out of position.
