GdS: Onyedika and Onana the two names that remain as Milan continue midfielder hunt

By Oliver Fisher -

One of the issues that AC Milan must address between now and the end of the transfer window is the signing of a new midfielder, with two names standing out above all.

La Gazzetta dello Sport notes how the fixture list is hectic, so depth is one of the needs of a team fighting for the Scudetto and to get through the Champions League group stages.

With Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer as guarantees, there is not as much certainty about Rade Krunic (despite his positive displays in the double pivot in times of emergency) while Tommaso Pobega is still learning and Tiemoue Bakayoko is considered out of the plans.

Raphael Onyedika of FC Midtjylland is seen as a target by Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara. He has already made 108 appearances for the Danish club at just 21 years of age, having scored 9 goals and provided 6 assists. He has international experience as he has played in the Europa League, Conference League and Champions League qualification stage.

Renato Sanches went to PSG, Carney Chukwuemeka ended up at Chelsea, Baptiste Santamaria of Rennes is too expensive and the track leading to Pape Sarr of Tottenham has cooled down a lot, so the Rossoneri radar moved to one other profile.

The other name being considered is Jean Onana of Bordeaux, and it must be noted that the managements of Milan and the French club have recently become acquainted after the Yacine Adli operation.

Between the two, however, Onyedika wins on points. He is younger with ample room for improvement, has an imposing physique and he stands out in particular in the non-possession phase with the recovery of balls and in the coverage of spaces. His cost would be less than €10m, so likely less than Onana.
