GdS: Origi’s injury leaves Pioli with tough decision for Salernitana-Milan clash

Divock Origi sustained an injury a few days ago and thus missed the clash against Liverpool. Friendlies aside, though, it has left Stefano Pioli with a tough decision to make for the resumption of Serie A.

Milan have certainly struggled a bit in the centre-forward role this season, pushing Olivier Giroud to the limit (and many times past it) due to the lack of a deputy. Origi’s injury, as such, couldn’t have come at a worse time.

As reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport, Pioli was hoping to have Origi back in good shape for the clash against Salernitana (using the friendlies to get there). Now, instead, he will have to find an alternative and it should be noted that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still out.

Giroud, meanwhile, will have a vacation after the World Cup final today and will thus return just before the game against Salernitana. He can probably start, as he’s a warrior indeed, but it’s not ideal at all.

Ante Rebic could be a shout, as well as Rafael Leao, but it’s clear Pioli will have to adapt his tactical plan for this. Marko Lazetic could be considered but, as we saw in the friendlies, he’s still very young and inexperienced.
