GdS: Ouédraogo, Popovic, Zohouri – Milan working on three signings for the future

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are not just looking to sign players who would immediately come into the first team, because they are in fact scouting several talents for the future.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports that Milan are looking for three January signings to come in and reinforce departments that need help, but they are also looking at other more futuristic operations.

Matija Popovic: The Serbian striker plays in the U17 team of Partizan Belgrade, but in a month he should arrive Milanello. Popovic will become 18 on January 8th and will be able to sign for another club, given his deal with his current side expires.

Milan have been working on the deal for some time, they are in advanced talks and are ‘very well positioned’ to get things over the line. Let’s say that, barring any hitches on the final straight, the deal will be done and Popovic will be able to sign a four-year contract shortly after blowing out 18 candles.

In the event of a definitive agreement, Milan will have beaten the competition from other top European clubs including Real Madrid and Barcelona. Popovic has the physique of a centre-forward with a height of 193cm, but thanks to his technique he can play on the wings or as an attacking midfielder.

Assan Ouédraogo: The attack is not the only sector in which Milan wants to build resources for the future: in midfield the name of Ouédraogo of Schalke remains hot. Also born in 2006 like Popovic, he has admirers around Europe from RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich to Arsenal, Inter and Juventus.

Ouédraogo is a midfielder who plays for the first team, in the 2. Bundesliga, and is part of the Germany youth set up. This season he amassed 11 appearances and one goal, before an injury at the U17 World Cup stopped him.

He has a contract until 2027 but with a €12m release clause. Milan are currently ahead of the competition because Geoffrey Moncada made guarantees regarding the project, and the sale of Rade Krunic could facilitate things.

Guy Noël Zohouri: Le Havre youngster Zohouri (16) is also on Milan’s list, and he is currently playing with the U19 side there. The likes of Paul Pobega, Riyad Mahrez, Ferland Mendy and Loïc Badé have come through the ranks of the French club, so the Rossoneri’s scouts are watching closely.
