GdS: Pay rise on the cards for Romagnoli as Milan prepare important renewal

Although a revolution is expected at the club, AC Milan will make sure to keep the important players. One of these, of course, is the captain Alessio Romagnoli, who has been linked with a move to Lazio in recent weeks.

As reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews.it), though, the Rossoneri are keen on avoiding another Gigio Donnarumma situation. Romagnoli’s contract will expire in 2022 and renewal talks will soon be ongoing.

There is no urgency to sit down at the table, per the newspaper, but the directors are aware that they can’t get too comfortable. The defender currently earns €3.5m per year, which exceeds the wage cap that CEO Ivan Gazidis wants to introduce.

However, Romagnoli will most likely be an exception, as an economic effort will be needed to lock him down with a new contract. In other words, a pay rise is on the card for the 25-year-old, who will be the leader of the ‘new Milan’.
