GdS: Pioli has ‘used another life’ with draw away at Salernitana

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is coming under increased pressure and the latest draw away at strugglers Salernitana has not done him any favours at all.

As has been written by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News), the Italian coach seems to have ‘used another life in the video game’ when it comes to his future with the club.

The more impatient among the Milan fanbase have lost confidence in Pioli’s ability to get consistent victories out of this team, and results like the one against Salernitana only give those voices more weight.

Not just the result, the performance against the Granata left a huge amount to be desired. Milan only got the one point thanks to a 90th minute equalise from Luka Jovic who has started to find some form.

Milan are now very close to being overtaken by teams like Bologna and Fiorentina and it feels more as though the club is in a fight for a Champions League place, rather than the Serie A title.

Each game that ends in anything other than a win feels like a step closer to Milan and Pioli parting ways, which would be tough to see after a summer that excited so many fans.

  1. His gamble for 433 is crazy. Buying players for 433 has resulted in weakening Milan. We need a coach that believes in twin strike force, not singular striker. Cdk is doing so much better is ample proof that Poli needs to go

  2. I always thanks God the team win, but the football Pioli playing is very suck.
Mota is the man for te ACM bring him up next season pls.

  3. I was hoping for Postecoglou before Tottenham took him away from Celtic. Thiago Motta is the best choice now. Young, hungry, knows Italian football, and forms very close connections to players, like Ibra and Maldini do. Players fight hard for a coach like Motta.

Pioli had potential at one point but nearly all coaches have a personality shift as the money and ‘glamour’ changes them. If we look at all the old successful coaches, the only two who are not affected by money and are still the same guys they have always been are Klopp and Guardiola. It’s no coincidence they keep winning. Thiago Motta is a chance to get a future great while he’s still new.

  4. I have to say that when jovic came on Giroud also looked more effective. The truth of the matter is that the midfield just doesn’t inspire confidence…
reafeo leao got criticised,,but in my opinion with him on the pitch we will get chances to score ..
The midfield seems to get so congested with defenders trying to move forward at the same time .
It’s so chaotic as we always seem to have most of the possession but created very few chances ..
I think jovic and Giroud could play together from the start ..Loftus cheek was a huge disappointment,,as was reinders ,,,pulisic did work hard ,but overdid things ,but not releasing the ball at the right times .
When jovic came in and crosses were put into the box both Giroud and jovic looked dangerous,,indeed a combination from both of them resulted in a game ..
We have got the players ,but no real teamwork or belief..We did not play well but we should have still won this game ..What a clanger from big Mike ..
I still believe however that we will turn things around .
A big concern is like most of you have already said ,why so many injuries ?

    1. “I have to say that when jovic came on Giroud also looked more effective.”

Milan would play 1000x better with 2 strikers. The wingers are ineffective and the midfield creates nothing. At least with two strikers they MIGHT get the ball inside the penalty box every now & then. Every time Milan has played with Giroud & Jovic they both have been good.

  5. Milan has been in a fight for fourth position since the day Maldini was shown the door. Nobody expected ot wpuld be this close, perhaps, a few weeks in when Roma and Lazio fell to 13 and 16th and left us the top positions, but this is the quality of the team. Change the coach all you want, it won’t get better till Cardinale sells the club, Forlani is fired and we state building a squad that can compete, not a showroom for Cardinales assets.

He filled the squad with young players who can be sold on, or used as a bargaining chip (“look at the young average age of this group of promising players, Mr. Potential investor”)

Selling Tonali and buying 10 players was always going to give us this result.

Hopefully this strategy pays off and he gets the billion he wants. If it goes badly, this becomes the norm for years…
