GdS: Pioli asks for Lazio star Milinkovic-Savic – why the deal is not impossible

There is one target for the midfield department that Stefano Pioli seems to have put above all the others, and that is Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

As reported by today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it), Pioli has in fact indicated that the Lazio star is the perfect prototype for the role of attacking midfielder in his 4-2-3-1: a physical midfielder with great technique, as well as quality in the final pass and even his shooting.

The good news for Milan is that the Serbia international’s contract is expiring in a year and in all likelihood he will leave Lazio in the summer. Their president Claudio Lotito drives a hard bargain, but could let him leave for the €25-30m that Milan would offer.

Paolo Maldini has been dreaming of ‘SMS’ for some time as well, and though he might not be the typical RedBird or Elliott Management signings since he is already 28 years old, the owners evaluated the acquisition of Paulo Dybala last summer showing they are willing to look at players in their prime.

Milinkovic-Savic has amassed 7 goals and 8 assists in 34 Serie A appearances this season, in addition to 2 goals in 6 Europa League games.
