GdS: ‘Pioli divides Milan’ – how his future will be decided in five days

By Euan Burns -

The pressure has built on Stefano Pioli and AC Milan again with the next five days set to be crucial to the coach’s future with the club.

As highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pioli has a lot riding on the Europa League quarter-final second leg against AS Roma on Thursday night.

With the Serie A title heading the way of Inter, Milan are focused on winning the Europa League, but they are 1-0 down after the first leg at San Siro.

To make life even harder for Pioli and Milan, an exit from the Europa League could be followed by seeing Inter win the Serie A title in the Derby della Madonnina with Milan as the ‘home’ team.

The belief is that the outcome of these two matches across five days will be decisive when it comes to Pioli’s future as Milan boss.

He has been on fairly thin ice for much of the season, helped lately by a good run of victories. Losing to Roma and drawing against Sassuolo has put the pressure back on, and the upcoming two matches could bring the situation to boiling point.

If he overturns the Europa League deficit and delays Inter’s title, he could live to fight another day.
