GdS: Pioli finds tactical balance to cope with loss of Ibra – a fluid identity is the key

By Oliver Fisher -

There is no doubting the importance of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the presence he has, but last night Milan showed they are capable of winning without him.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport writes (via MilanNews), Ibrahimovic makes the difference even when he doesn’t score, but Milan are no longer dependent on the Swede which is a positive step that at the same time enhances the overall value of Pioli’s squad.

Indeed, Pioli has found a different tactical balance without Ibra, which in some matches – like yesterday’s against Torino – can work perfectly. It will not always be as easy as putting seven goals past an opponent, but the Rossoneri clearly have a very specific identity that varies according to the opponent and the eleven chosen by the coach.

Milan have made progress on this front but they are still waiting to see Ibrahimovic at work – hopefully in the Champions League – but the team around Rebic has been reborn. On Sunday, in all likelihood, it will be the Croatian’s turn again.
