GdS: Pioli’s future ‘could come back into the balance’ without top four finish

Stefano Pioli’s position as head coach of AC Milan is currently not under scrutiny, but a failure to qualify for the next edition of the Champions League could change things.

Pioli’s tenure as Milan manager has so far been a story of pretty much constant improvement, as he steered the team into the Europa League during his first season (albeit not a full campaign), secured a Champions League return in 2020-21 and then won the Scudetto last season.

The latest step forward has come in Europe this season as the Rossoneri improved from last season’s group stage exit in the Champions League to reach the semi-final stage where they will meet their rivals Inter.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pioli’s position is currently not in question, but if Milan finished fifth this season his future ‘could come back into the balance’ given how much is at stake.
