AC Milan are working on multiple fronts to try and improve the squad ahead of next season and the midfield is being focused on.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Milan will almost certainly not spend €40-50m on any one player but will certainly rebuild the team with a serious of targeted acquisitions after Sandro Tonali’s sale.
With Ruben Loftus-Cheek to be announced soon, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada are now aiming for two other signings: Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders.
They are not seen as alternatives but rather complementary, because they can play together in a three-man midfield. Loftus-Cheek, Reijnders, Musah is the current dream. The trio would be physical, European, experimental but interesting.
Milan have verbally agreed a €2m net per year deal with Musah, who would be happy to join, and Stefano Pioli likes him for his physicality as a mezzala. The question now is the agreement with Valencia, who want €25m with Milan aiming for €20m.
Reijnders is in a different situation. In recent days he has made it clear that he only wants Milan, with Premier League clubs snubbed. For a Dutch player, the chance to join the Rossoneri and follow the path of Rijkaard, Gullit and Van Basten is something special.
Reijnders is 24, Musah 20 and Loftus-Cheek 27 making it quite a young midfield department. Milan have not yet made an offer to AZ Alkmaar but will soon, aiming to close at around €18-22m which is becoming a natural ceiling for all operations.
The Eredivisie club are not an easy one to deal with, so the key will be how much Reijnders will be able to impose his will. Reijnders and Musah are the two players around whom Milan are trying to build the midfield because of their physique, ability to move play forward and their dribbling.
Reijnders would be the pivot, called to protect the defence and stride out when possible. The only doubt might be that Loftus-Cheek and Musah score very little, meaning there would not be the attacking production that Tonali offered, for example.
The next 10 days will bring decisions on at least one of them, probably both, while there is no shortage of alternatives like Nicolas Dominguez of Bologna.
GdS, have you met Pioli? He wants to play 4-2-3-1 and nothing will change his mind.
If we were to have a single pivot, I don’t think it will be Reindeer. He’s the only one of the 3 who actually scores goals. Basically these 3 are all mezzalas. Get Amrabat instead and then it will be a competitive midfield.
i recon if Milan does go 433 Krunic will be the regista until benacer is well again
Why there is no Luka Romero news
Does feel like all three are missing a natural defensive player, filling in for defenders and intercepting counter attacks, but maybe the idea is that flexibility. Pioli’s proven he can develop players so he deserves a chance to try.
Semoga gagal di Tijani , dia pemain yang kurang bagus
It’s not a dream trio of his, it’s what he choose from the list Moncada and Furlani gave him. And he probably choose the least average from the list of average and cheap. Sorry, from the magic algorithm analysis of Billy the magic Beane.
its suprising that we can afford a ruben, his salary is far to high, why we did not ask for a mac allister or kovacic, gravenbergh if we now are able to pay that much? however Rade will play for sure so why we need that many midfielders? we should focus on right side for 5 years now and we should focus on how to offload saladmaker and rebic – because origi will stay for 100%
The me from 6 months ago can’t believe I’m about to say this but, I’m ok with Origi staying IF he’s 3rd choice. He was a very useful attacking utility player in a much better squad than ours before we signed him.
He got injured straight away, plus it seems to take everyone a year to adapt to whatever it is that Pioli wants them to do.
Out of all the ‘deadwood’ he’s the one who might be worth another chance.
Amrabat, Florentino both within reach and not much more expensive than the names mentioned. Musah, Reijnders and Loftus are nice pick ups, but in comparison look a little undewelming.
Big talents that only Milan wants.
Sofyan Amrabat is the idle player Milan should focus on. And then, after Amrabat it should be Kamada.
Keep on dreaming trio midfield Pioli every days and nights.
While the fans are dreaming of amrabat behind frattesi and SMS…
So this is our “dream” middlefield?
Nightmare more likely…
I need reigndeer he is good in depence also on attack
Just because they dont have big name dont mean they cannot perform well. Beside they cost cheap. RLC 16m euro cash ( not including bonus) ,if they can get yunus & reijnders for total 40m euro then that means selling tonali one player get 3 player. Change formation to 433 mean they dont need kamada anymore
