GdS: Pioli favours Lazio midfielder for Milan but asking price is a problem

AC Milan have got many midfield targets right now but Stefano Pioli is the most convinced by Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, although there is an issue with the potential deal.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News), the Italian coach would like to see Milinkovic-Savic join the club more than any of the other targets.

The likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tijjan Reijnders, and Davide Frattesi are all serious targets for the Rossoneri as well, but Pioli is most enamoured with Milinkovic-Savic.

He may not get his wishes fulfilled, though, because Lazio are thought to be asking for a fee in the region of €50 million for the Serbian. This is despite him only having a year left to run on his contract with the Biancocelesti.

That price may come down if Lazio realise this is their last chance to get a fee, but Juventus are very interested in him as well.

    1. If all 3 top clubs in Italy and probably a few from other countries are interested, why wouldn’t he set a higher price and try to get more money? Mason Mount has 1 year left on his contract and Chelsea rejected an offer of over 60M€ for him.

      1. Mount is a different story United has money. The league has money, Chelsea can afford release him next year Lazio can’t. They don’t have PL money.

          1. Clearly he doesn’t want to stay, that is why he has not extended and even Lolleto knows this but they want to send Louis Alberto to Saudi League first and that is allowing Lazio to play hardball with SmS transfer

          2. Lazio held out money on him for years now. We all PL players are overhyped specifically if they are English. Not only strengthen rivals but your filling their spot with homegrown players which is important to keep the Quota. Kovacic a much better player sold for less while they’re holding out on Mount for more than double. Use your brain.

        1. The difference between SMS being in the squad or not might be the difference between qualifying for the cx or not, also by reinforcing a direct rival it increases the chance the transfer would help eliminate them from the running in a spot for Europe. Keeping him is worth 50 million euros to the club since they cant replace him this year with a player of like quality. He wants to be sure whoever gets him insures the amount in their budget will be the same as if he stayed. Which is another reason why clubs keep their best pkayers until their deals expires, because the opportunity cost of loosing them exceeds the fees they will receive if they sell the player. It isnt a fee for the market value of the player, he is asking for the value of his loss to the club and strengthening his rivals for the next 5 years.

          1. All valid points however why keep someone who does not want to stay, why not cash in and strengthen your squad for the next 5 years rather then pass the opportunity up by keeping him there and loose him for nothing.

They are already about to lose Sergio Romero, should have given him more game time and a new contract instead they are too busy holding onto SMS like they did with Louis Alberto and not sold him when they could have maximized profits from his sale.

Italian owners have this problem where the cut their nose to spite there face, Cairo did it in the case of Belloti.

The root of the problem is the bureaucracy in Italy, won’t let teams build stadiums, no government incentives to build stadia.

The Seria is loosing all it’s best players. loosing it’s creditability as a league, being ridiculed by other leagues in the way it is run.

The traditional Italian way of running these clubs can not work in modern football, thanks to the Italian bureaucracy and those running Seria a, teams like Sheffield United can out bid AC Milan , Juventus and Inter.

    2. It depends if they care about losing him on a free. Let’s say they think he is the difference between finishing top 4 and getting to the second round of the UCL, compared to coming 5th and getting knocked out in the first round.

If that’s the case, then they might as well hold onto him. I thought losing Kessie for free was a big mistake from Milan, but to be fair we maybe wouldn’t have won the title if we’d sold him the year before.

      1. Bingo R. So let’s say we sold Kessie for 40-50m which was the value around that time. Clearly based on how the Tonali muck up is going, we weren’t going to replace him and have that player do exactly it better the things he did. So we don’t win the Scudetto, we’re not in Pot 1. We don’t get favourable draws, we might not even make it out of the group stage kinda like the year before and soon this year. We don’t make the UCL semis and rack up the extra 50-80 mil past the group stage. So then was it worth selling him in the first place? There’s lots of cascading effects from selling or not selling players. Selling Dollaruma too, we had trash back up, he was in form and literally winning points with his saves….we wouldn’t make 4th to get into UCL…. etc
People always think we can sell and replace like for like. Kessie was a top 5 CDM in Europe, that’s hard to replace

        1. I doesn’t work like that. You don’t know what you don’t know.
When we lost Donnarumma, who would’ve thought Maignan will lead us to a Scudetto win. Same goes to Kessie, we probably would’ve gotten someone even better.

          1. You think we could have gotten someone better for 50m…..ok who? Let’s hear it?

There’s no way we win the Scudetto if Kessie was sold. This means there’s no way we were making 100m plus this season from the UCL. U get that part?

        2. Like Jon write. And maybe Milan would sign Alvarez and Enzo Fernandez for that money. Who knows what would have happened. You wrote you fantasy story as that is how it would have happened. Nobody knows.

      2. exactly, look at the mess Tonali leaving has caused. Even Hakan and Kessie. We still didn’t replace either of their skillsets in our team. It cost us dearly. This has an impact for the next 2 years even if he is replaced by a player of equal skill. A new player has to adapt to new teamates and life as well. So this acclimatization process takes time at the cost of immediate results.

  1. SMS 35m
    Frattesi 40m
    Arda Guler 22m
    Openda/scamacca 50m
    Other Lesser player 5m
    Total €152mil

It’s over limit from budget 😀

    1. Thats if you want to pay over price. Arda guler release clause only 17,5m euro . You dont need frattesi if you buy SMS . Scamacca already out from david moyes plan , loan 5m euro with obligation to buy at the end of season 25m euro enough to convince westham ( they wont accept if not obligation because they want to get rid scamacca ) . So basically you only pay SMS 40m euro , arda guler 17,5m euro ,scamacca 5m euro , other DMF 20m euro like hjulmand or that one from dutch league ( forgot his name ) total 82,5m euro . With our basic budget like last season + tonali sale more than enough to cover all of that . But…… Thats if Redbird really gonna use all tonali money for transfer budget. They can still get extra money if success sell junior messias, rebic ,origi ,ballo toure

  2. We aren’t getting Sergej. I still have dreams about how epic

    ——————-Bennacer—Tonali
    Berardi—————SMS——————–Leao

could have been, and it’s clear that was what Maldini was going for.

    1. @Drew, agreed!

Hard to know what sources to trust, they could be exaggerating how close we were to these deals.

But almost certainly under Maldini, we wouldn’t have sold Tonali, and that 5 man line-up looks great, at least for challenging in Serie A. Balanced midfield 3 and goal threat out wide. Sure Berardi isn’t world class like Leao, but his league stats are excellent.

    2. Add a striker and we would have won league for sure and would have easily been top 8 in UCL with opportunity to win it. But all that is now down the drain thanks to Gerry and his ego and PROFIT making mentality.

    3. That’s even worse than our current midfield. No creativity, no pace. I’m glad Tonali is gone and we’re not getting SMS or Berardi.

    4. That is not clear at all. First of all they would not be able to afford Berardi and SMS if not for the sale of Tonali. Secondly, all they ever tried to sign under Maldini was young 18,19 and 20 year olds with potential, but never established top level players.

  3. Every asking price from another club is a problem right now for Milan. Milan will only buy free agent, but still lost the battle caused of salary demand

    1. Thuram said he will go to inter and didn’t speak about salary. But it’s unclear if we raise salary, he will change his mind from moving other direction..

  4. Največi problem što ne možemo prodat nikoga od onih koje smo namjeravali !!!! Jer je sve najobičniji ŠKART !!Sad prodavamo ono najbolje što imamo tako da nam se smješi druga liga

  5. In as much as we really we need great midfielders, we can’t spend exorbitantly on players…. Painful Tonali is leaving but it doesn’t mean we go crazy buying a player with a year left on his contract at a very stupid price. We can’t be desperate lavishing those millions on a player with such contract. Not just Milan will seize buying him, other clubs won’t too, Inter can though as they don’t mind their debts flying rapidly yearly…. Don’t be surprised if u later know agent fees worth millions were part of Thuram’s deal not just the salary brothers. We should reason like it’s our daily life not this fake world of football.
And we aren’t as appealing when Maldini was with us. We don’t even have a sport director…. We should’ve atleast held on to Massara to help make certain deals easy.🤦

  6. Wow, It’s simple I am sure he would do good at Milan but there are better players out there. I still remember when lazio was asking 100M for him, since then frankly I am not excited at all with SMS.

Let’s go for younger, better players that one can get for third of that price, get this Arda kid ASAP, we still have time for 1 or two other midfielders.

Pioli knows best what he can or cannot work with, let him be the guy to pick

  7. Lol. Everyone is making these guys look like fools. First they sell Tonali (without securing a replacement first ) so now everyone knows we have some money and so they raise their prices on us to get a piece of the pie. Brilliant Furlani!
When Maldini was trying to haggle the price down for SMS from Lazio from 30m which Lotito was asking for a player in his final year of contract to 20m plus bonuses which would have put it to about 25-30m anyways. That looks quite cheap in comparison now eh. Now he’s asking for 50m lolololol. Of course he is, he knows we need a mid more now than ever and we have money from Tonali’s sale. This is freaking hilarious 😂😂😂 I guess he knows the true value of his players.

    1. 💯💯💯 well said.

Furlani the master negotiator!!!! The price goes UP when he picks up the phone LOL

So far he has managed to sign BOTH the players MALDINI HAD ALREADY NEGOTIATED the DEALS FOR (RLC and Kamada)!!!! Hahahahahaha!!!!

The kid is on fire! Maybe Gerry will fire him too? What a fkn $hit show.

@Pioli where u at son???? Why so quiet u donkey??? Hahahahahaha

  8. Milan owners are not ready to spend much, not even with the windfall from Tonali’s sale, so we end up getting mediocre players, and expect the coach to work his magic. The story is still the same. So, why sack the few good heads that can attract good players for the club? These guys are in a limbo right now. Even with the money from Tonali they don’t know what to do, yet, they left Maldini and Massara peanuts to spend for a whole season. The fans are closely watching. Let’s see how well they will do in the transfer market by themselves.

  9. LOL. With our owners the Fee is ALWAYS a problem. 120M from UCL and 70M from Tonali sale and we STILL CANNOT BUY a player LOL.

So glad we chose Redbird over other buyers🤪.

Just wait for it. In another week or so that fat useless puss Scaroni will come out and cry to the media how we need to sell just one more big star player so we can buy LOL.

    Just wait for it lads….

    Disgusting
