GdS: Pioli expected to limit rotation in attack against Rennes

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is not expected to rotate his attackers for the Europa League match against Stade Rennes on Thursday evening, a report claims.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News), Pioli is not prepared to take any chances and tinker with what has become a working formula in 2024.

It is common for a team with the stature of Milan to rotate the squad for a Europa League game, especially in the early knockout stages where smaller teams tend to be faced.

The Rossoneri will certainly be the favourites for this tie against the Ligue 1 side, but it will not be easy. Pioli is expected to name the same four attackers that have become customary for Milan.

Olivier Giroud should stay upfront rather than be replaced by Luka Jovic, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will continue behind him. Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao will also hold their places on the wings.

It is in the defence where the rotation will really happen as both Davide Calabria and Simon Kjaer are expected to miss out thanks to injury.

Matteo Gabbia and Theo Hernandez will likely be the centre-backs, with Alessandro Florenzi on the right and Filippo Terracciano on the left.

  1. Adli seems worried but anyone know anything about Rennes and their current form? because I know jack. We’re not playing particularly great but still winning which I always thought was “the mark of champions” and is fine when Juve or Man City do it. When we do it though…….

  2. If we are not going to use our squad in EL then what is the point of having depth?

    Simic should play for sure.
I would also be in favour of Okafor and Jovic starting and perhaps even Musah.

They are good players who have mostly done well when called upon, I’m sure they would appreciate their coach showing some faith in them

Also the smaller French teams tend to be quite physical and fast, so some fresh legs would be good

    1. 1. Simic isn’t in the squad
      2. Giroud and Leao are better options for a crucial game on the European stage
      3. Musah is at best a bench player at milan
      Wake up mate

      1. I forgot about Simic, that’s a pity.

A crucial game? lets not get carried away.
We have a squad for a reason. Leao and Giroud can’t be expected to perform 100% every few days. We have very good alternatives who deserve a chance

Musah would be very useful to match the physicality and pace of a French mid table team.

        Go back to sleep mate

        1. You’re the kind of fan who asks for rotation then blames Pioli for NoT fieLdinG thE riGht PlaYerZ, aren’t you? In what is one of the most important games of the season, where progression or failure may seal his fate, why would he rotate a winning combo?
French mid table team or not, Europa League is important to us for many reasons. Plus musah is average. Watch a game brother!

          1. I have made my point logically and politely.
Everything you have written is just complete nonsense. Read it back.

            No i don’t criticize rotation

No this game will not seal Piolis fate , omg the daftest thing I have read this year

Musah is a good young player. He struggled when played out of position. Watch a game
