GdS: Pioli looking to follow Allegri’s lead – renewal until 2024 possible as a reward for his work

By Oliver Fisher -

There continues to be a fantastic relationship between head coach Stefano Pioli and the AC Milan management which could land him a renewal.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive) confirms the positive impressions that filter from the club regarding the relationship between the Milan hierarchy and Pioli. It is a good feeling born thanks to the results and positive feedback from the team as the Rossoneri players have all appreciated the ‘painstaking and gritty work’ of a coach who was initially seen only as an interim.

Pioli withstood the avalanche of the Ralf Rangnick saga, earned the confidence of CEO Ivan Gazidis and has shown that he knows how to improve the squad technically and mentally with work on the training ground and performances in games.

This is why we are talking about contract renewal for the first time. The former Lazio and Fiorentina coach has an agreement until June 2022, but Elliott and the rest of the management seem ready to arm him immediately after an official return to the Champions League. The parties will work on an extension until 2024 – as a reward for an excellent milestone.

Pioli would be the first Milan coach in the last decade after Allegri to accomplish two small feats: reaching qualification for the prestigious European competition (the last time was in 2013) and also staying for more than two seasons.
