Since the start of the season, Milan have only used the 4-2-3-1 formation as it has given them a lot of success. However, with the team’s form dipping, Stefano Pioli will have to explore some solutions to their problems.
Even during the injury crisis, the manager stuck to the formation and one example is the game against Bologna, when he played Rafael Leao as trequartista rather than switching to a 4-4-2. Now, however, it might be time to look things over.
As reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), Pioli should really consider changing the formation as Milan have become too predictable. A solution could be a three-man midfield with Sandro Tonali as a mezz’ala or regista.
Up front, it could be a mix between a 4-3-3 and a 4-3-1-2 with Hakan Calhanoglu moving quite freely alongside the strikers. It remains to be seen if Pioli will try some new styles in training, but so far he’s sticking to the 4-2-3-1.
