GdS: Pioli to evaluate Romero in preseason with loan move not excluded

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan completed the signing of Luka Romero on a free transfer yesterday and Stefano Pioli plans to evaluate him in preseason, according to a report.

Romero did his medical, fitness test and contract signing yesterday before being announced as the third signing of the summer window after Marco Sportiello and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

La Gazzetta dello Sport writes that Pioli must make his assessments regarding Romero starting on Monday which is the first day of preseason. The management and head coach consider him a player with great potential, in an area of the field that needs a breath of fresh air.

Pioli will obviously study him well in the first part of the training camp to the United States, but the fate of Romero’s 2023-24 season does not depend exclusively on him.

A lot will be decided by potential signings such as Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze as well as departures that could materialise such as Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias.

Romero played 276 minutes for Lazio last season and scored one goal, but now he would like to really start growing after Maurizio Sarri did not put much faith in him.

It is possible that the 18-year-old could be loaned out, should more signings arrive. Otherwise, he will be the first alternative to who will be the starter on the right wing, even if Romero said he plays best behind the striker.

    1. Best? According to who?

He showed glimpse of quality, but not that much. And all those 4 times he played he is Bang average.
