GdS: Pioli working on adapting position of young Milan midfielder during training

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has taken on the challenge of trying to convert Tommaso Pobega into a defensive midfielder, according to a report.

With Ismael Bennacer in isolation due to Covid and Franck Kessie still to return after his Olympic Games campaign, Sandro Tonali is sure of a starting place against Valencia tonight at the Mestalla in what will be the Rossoneri’s fourth friendly of the summer.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Pobega and Rade Krunic will battle for a starting spot but the former probably has the edge at this stage given that in the first month of work he has impressed Pioli.

The head coach is trying to adapt him in the role of midfielder and tonight’s friendly will be able to provide new updates, just as Saturday’s 1-1 draw with OGC Nice was important. If the experiment were to work, the future of Pobega is much more likely to be at Milan.
