GdS: Pioli shows faith in youth with Simic start against Real Madrid – the background

AC Milan fans were surprised to see Jan-Carlo Simic in action from the very first whistle against Real Madrid on Monday morning, but it shows again that Stefano Pioli is not afraid to put young players into the team.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pioli had not originally planned to use Simic from the start of the game but he then found out that Matteo Gabbia is very close to joining Villarreal.

There is little logic to giving a departing player minutes in pre-season, so Pioli made the quick decision to see what Simic can do alongside Fikayo Tomori.

He is a very physical defender who, in his games with the Germany U19s, has gotten used to facing big strikers. He easily switches between English and Italian on his social media accounts, whilst also being able to speak German and Serbian.

Should he play his cards right, this tour in America could have a serious effect on the next stage of his career.

    1. Dario’s son, his father was under rated and born in a generation when Italian defenders were the greatest, but his son will hopefully become world class,

  1. Give him time and don’t place too big of expectations too early.

But if we still have other priorities, CB should be the last we worry – as 5th choice Simic is good. Let him train with senior players, play in Primavera match and when the opportunities arose use him in senior match.

Except, of course if Facundo Gonzales is really as good as Moncada scout report.
