GdS: Pioli’s plans for Rafael Leao – he can become Milan’s Chiesa

By Oliver Fisher -

New AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is planning to use an attacking trident with Rafael Leao set for a starring role, a report claims.

Pioli was named as the successor to Marco Giampaolo on Wednesday and speculation has instantly turned to which system he will use with the Rossoneri.

According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Lazio and Fiorentina boss plans to use a front three, suggesting he will therefore proceed with a 4-3-3 formation.

The report adds that Pioli will place great emphasis on Leao – a player who he was highly complimentary of during his official unveiling on Wednesday.

The paper recalls the work Pioli did with Federico Chiesa at Fiorentina, a player who was 20 years old when he took charge of La Viola, the same age as Leao is now.

Leao will be available at Milanello from this weekend as the Portuguese U21 team will play only one match in the international break.

From there, the paper claims that Pioli will get to work with the former Lille star and will entrust him as a winger – most likely on the left, but he will also be able to adapt as a centre-forward.
