GdS: Pioli’s position at risk if Milan’s collapse continues and top four is not reached

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli’s position as head coach of AC Milan could come under question if the team do not achieve a top four finish, a report claims.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport writes (via MilanNews), Pioli’s excellent work on the bench is certainly one of the major factors behind the fantastic post-lockdown period that Milan had, but now he is at risk in this season finale. The coach must consolidate his work and confirm the good signs that emerged after his appointment.

Reaching the top four and securing a spot in the next Champions League would be enough for Pioli, whom the ownership has never questioned, but it is clear that Milan’s collapse in the second round made a lot of noise and now the Rossoneri are expected to have five decisive matches to reach the top four.

The possibility of missing out on the Champions League would be a real shock after an amazing first part of the season so the final five matches of the season are truly like finals that Milan cannot and must not fail. Not arriving in the top four would put everyone in question, including Pioli who absolutely does not want to think about this possibility.
